If you have a rug that has tassles or open bits of "carpet tassles," this will injur ANY upright vacuum cleaner. Best way to vacuum a rug is to use a hose with a suction only floor head or small tool on the end.

I need instructions on how to change the belt on my Hoover Model U4264-930 vaccum.

Tool Needed, flat head screwdriver (larger one works a little better). Serious Safety Precaution: Make sure unit is unplugged. Preliminary: Check: that nothing is caught like threads etc, preventing roller brush from turning. I've had this model vacuum 10 years and have pulled threads out countless times. However it still has the original belt on it. To change belt: 1.) There is a plastic plate underneath roller, towards front.. Pry the 3 tabs at front, the plate hinges downward slightly (to clear the front tabs). Next, there are 2 little clips at bottom of plate. Insert screw driver at each of these clips to fully release the plate the rest of the way. (Or it may even come off without having to pry back on these. The plastic clips need pushed towards front, to clear the ridge that catches towards the back). Pry one, then the other, clip forward, while gently pulling the plate the rest of the way out. (Gentle prying will assure it will snap back together OK, so you still get a good seal.) You now should see the whole roller brush. 2.) Remove the shell/motor cover: To do this, a.) pull off the rug height adjuster lever, and take not where you put it so you won't loose it. b.) push foot release down and keep vacuum bag in the vacuuming/hinged/operating position (not the upright/locked position), and position cleaner on it's side, or upside down. c. Pry around the bottom edge, starting at right corner, then go around, prying in about 4 different places. Shell/motor cover will now easily pull off (upward and out towards front), exposing motor shaft and light bulb. 3.) remove belt from motor shaft. 4. slide roller and old belt out the bottom. 5.) remove old and place new belt on roller 6.) slide roller back into place. 7.) wrap other end of belt on motor shaft. 8.) shell cover, rug height adjuster knob, and bottom plate snap back into place. check that roller turns without much effort. 9.) It now should be ready to plug in and vacuum.

Belt keeps breaking after only short use on vacum cleaner

Each vacuum cleaner manufacturer produces specific belts for specific machines. An incompatible belt installed on the vacuum cleaner will cause the belt to break or burn. The belt must be installed according to manufacturer directions for best performance, or the belt will chafe against the interior housing parts and break prematurely.Sharp debris, a low height adjustment setting or vacuuming up rug corners may cause the rubber belt to snap or wear prematurely. Check the height adjustment for the vacuum, and use a higher setting for plush rugs. Avoid vacuuming sharp objects and corners of the rug.

The belts keep busting. i check the roller brush and it moves easily with out the belt. why do the belts keep busting?

1) could be the belts you are using are not for that particular model.

2) depending on what you are vacuuming, a rug on the floor for example with tassels will always break the belt when it gets caught into the roller brush.

Is the Dyson pulling carpet fibers, not dirt ?

You need to shut the brush roll off. It is ruining your rugs, the dyson has a very aggressive roller and can hurt some types of rugs and carpets.

Beater bar has stopped turning

All beater and rotating brush bars are fairly easy to get to with a couple of screw on the bottom of your wan. They are driven by a belt and these belts come off, break, or the bar itself is stuck with rug material. Unplug your vacumn and get our screwdriver. It;s easy to figure out once inside the wan.

My Rainbow SE vacuum was working fine until I ran over the edge of a rug and it went in to the nozzle. I immediately switched the vacuum off and proceeded to move the rug. When I tried to turn the Rainbow...

hello lilbutmunch1,
The brush is motor/belt driven so you probably either broke the belt or it shifted off the motor or brush shaft. I suggest you unplug it,flip it over and look for screws that hold the baseplate together.. remove those screws and seperate the baseplate to gain access to the brush and motor head. Once open, it should be fairly obvious what the problem is.. a broken belt, a belt that has shifted or the brush won't spin freely due to an obstruction. Hope this helps..

Rick ( bigbutmunch..LOL)

Hoover Windtunnel carpet level adjustment

The suction is so great that it sucks up your carpet, then nothing works. I get my children to stand on the corners/edges of the rug so that it stays perfectly flat on the floor while I vacuum. Or, you can turn off the brush roller (set it to "hard floor" setting). Or, tip the vacuum cleaner's front up slightly while vacuuming, to reduce suction.

HOOVER WINDTUNNEL VACUUM MODEL U6454-900 BELT KEEPS COMING OFF

Have you put on a new belt or just keep using the old one. If you haven't replaced it in the last 6 months, then it has stretched to the point where it won't stay on. Another cause is catching throw rugs, towels or something that gets in there and knocks the belt off.
