I recorded from a mini dvd player and didn't finalize. I read this post and got the Recorder to finalize. It shows the time of the recording and when I hit play, it just has nothing on the screen. All seems to be going along as expected, and then there is no final product. thanks ahead of time for any help.

I am using Maxell 16x DVD +RW media. The ability to select edit disk and finalize is not available. From what i read using -rw disks means that you shouldn't have to finalize anyway. It will record just fine on +R media.

It plays back ok when in the player but now on my New Gateway PC with a DVD +/-RW dvd burner or in the home Unit.

Anyway to get this to finalize?

I have spent 2 months looking for this answer myself... and at last success! i downloaded the user manual from funai(they made this model) available here: http://www.funai-corp.com/6pdf/om/MWR10D6.pdf on page 38 it instructs you to press setup on your remote, from the drop down menu you need to select disc edit and then select finalize. this aggravated me at first because nothing happens when i hit the setup button, i powered off the unit and hit setup before the disc loaded. this step is not mentioned but is necesary. you cannot finalize a disc after it has loaded to the title menu.

I have found you can't press the disc edit button while you are in edit mode. First make all your chapter edits etc... Then return to the main menu. At the main menu select play (not edit) your dvd will start to play then press stop. Now you should be able to access the disk edit button. Hope this helps. [email protected]

SOURCE: recorded dvds wont play in other dvd players

You have to finalize the disc. if the disc goes to the end it will finalize the disc automatically. If there is some part of the disc not used you have to do it yourself. IN DVD MODE PRESS SETUP, THEN DISC EDIT, THEN FINALIZE. FINALLY PRESS YES. That should do it.

SOURCE: My JVC DR-MV7 will play

My JVC DR-MV7 will not accept any disc for playback. I insert a movie disc and it consistently rejects them. After about 15 to 20 attempts, sometimes it will stay and begin reading the disc. It also sounds like some internal components are encountering some resistance (moving parts inside?). Any ideas?

SOURCE: Magnavox DVD recorder...finalizing problem

The manual isn't too helpful either - "Recording error other than below," it says. There are a couple of possibilities. The Philips/Magnavox/Funai recorders automatically record in VR mode when you use +R discs (there are two possible recording modes - V Mode and VR Mode). Is it possible that you have switched disc types lately? If you are currently using -R discs, switch to +R and vice versa. The manual states that +/-RW discs take a while to initialize.

I couldn't find a full factory reset on that one, so you may have to unplug the unit for about 20 minutes to restore all the defaults.

Another possibility: Finalization requires some extra space on the disc. If you accidentally pressed the button that changes the recording format between SP, EP, LP, etc., you may not be able to fit the same amount of video on the disc that you were able to fit before. You can change the format by pressing the Disc Mode button on the remote - LP Mode will fit 3 hours worth of recordings onto a 2-hr disc and is considered a "medium quality" recording. Try changing the Disc Mode to LP and see if it will finalize the next disc that you record. The downside of this possibility is that the discs that you have already made that are giving you errors are not "fixable" - you will will have to re-record the shows to a new disc in LP mode.

Good luck!

My DVD recorder has started to give error's after a dvd is recorded and at times will not finalize the dvd after it is recorded

There are a few possible reasons why your JVC 150 DVD recorder may be unable to finish a disc or is displaying an error message indicating that a disc is an ad:
Compatibility of the disc: Not all DVD recorders are compatible with all DVDs.
Your JVC 150 DVD recorder might not be compatible with the DVDs you've used for years.
A dirty lens may prevent the DVD recorder from adequately reading the disc.
Even if a lens cleaner helped, if the issue still exists, it might be required to have the lens cleaned by a trained expert.
The CD might have been scratched, damaged, or otherwise corrupted, rendering it unreadable.
Firmware issue: The firmware of the DVD recorder may be outdated or malfunctioning, causing it to not be able to read or finalize certain discs
Hardware issue: There may be an issue with the hardware of the DVD recorder such as a malfunctioning laser head or reading mechanism that is preventing it from reading or finalizing discs.

I have a few DVD+R dvds that I had partially recorded on, but not finalized yet. Now When I put them in it says loading and then says Unknown disc. However it loads movie dvds bought in stores just

Is it that you want to record more data on them? If so, fill up the remaining available space, then finalize. That will be your only solution to this problem.

DVDs come in different versions.
Try using the -R DVDs. Once your DVD recorder finalizes the DVDs they should on any DVD palyer.

Check your manual to find out the finalizing method for your DVD recorder.

Failure to record on -R DVDs

DVD-Rs do work with the RDR-VX500 ...... I had not recorded on mine for a few months after I ran out of the last batch ....... then I tried recording on the newer Sony DVD-Rs I had ...... would not record on DVD-R ..... turns out the instructions say the recorder will not work with any DVDs faster than 8x .... It looks like it's recording but it doesn't ..... then I noticed the newer DVDs were 16x ...... found an old 8x and tried it and it works fine ..... turns out the unit won't record slower on a 16x, it just won't record at all ...... get 8x and you'll be ok
