Noisy clothes washer

I have a GE washer (about 4 years old) that has a noisy final spin cycle. (I'm not sure waht the model number is since I am away from the unit at this time). To me it sounds similar to the noise associated with faulty bearings....metallic and kind of grating, rumbling sound. And it only happens during the final spin cycle. Other than that the rest of the wash and soin cycle seems fine. This end cycle noise is a major concern. Can you help? I have not tried to resolve the issue up to this point. Thanks.

I am thinking there may be an object caught between the inner and outer tubs...perhaps something came out of a pants pocket and was "flung" overboard into the outer tub. If you remove the top, and push the inner tub (moving tub) to one side, look with a flashlight for a foreign object. the noise will be fine until high speed kicks in and begins to disturb the sleeping object into a frenzy.

To me it sounds like yes there may be something inbetween the spin tub and the outer tub. But knowing GE it also may possibly be the gearcase itself. Its also possible the white metal hub that the spin basket is attached to by bolts has loosend up so the spin tub is slapping around. you can check that by seeing if you can move the spin tub side to side when the washer is stopped. Also there are 4 black rubber straps at the top of the white trim ring on top of the washer. The straps do brake with time and will cause the wash tub to slap and bang around diring the spin cycle. But my feeling is the gearcase. There not all that strong for the job they need to do. Good Luck.

Hi, please describe the type of noise you are hearing. If it is a grinding type noise, it is likely to be the drum bearing.

NAV6800AWW - noisy

hi there,

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping/or sound
during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and
redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

My old Hoover top loader Washer is noisy & doesn't spin out properly - how can I fix it?

Sounds like the switch which cuts the machine off when the load is unbalanced. My guess is that: This switch is being triggered too easily The springs holding the bowl up are either stretched or one is broken; The machine may not be level.
