Sudden High latency

I have jus recently installed the D-link DWL-G122 wireless usb adapter and i use it to connect to a wireless router (brand is SMC) about 50 metres away. I connect ping the router jus to check the consistency of the connection and heres what happens - For about 15 seconds i get replies from the router with a latency of 1 or 2ms (thats fine and my internet also works fine) but after 15 or so replies i get a sudden spike in latency in the next reply (latency of about 2000-3000ms). Again the next 15 or so replies are fine and again i get a single reply with the large latency. For browsing, this is hardly a problem but for gaming online or anything else which constantly downloads data, its a huge problem. I have tried practically everthing from changing the wireless channel to disabling my norton firewall but to no avail. Some one plese offer a solution. Thanks a lot

My port is high speed (2.0) and i have tried changing ports also. I also checked my adapter configs with my router ones and they match. Only guess i can take is that the adapter is spoilt!!

I have the exact same problem, and also get regular brief disconnections. OK for the web, but useless for playing online games. Anyone thinking of buying this adaptor should avoid it.

    I'm having the same problem...
Is there really no way to make it work normally? It makes playing online nearly impossible...

Do this In your router's configuration page, go to the wireless setup tab and note down the values of fragmentation(frag) threshold and RTS threshold(you may have to see advanced options for this) then in the adapter's config utility, click on advanced and enter the above two values in the appropriate boxes. also make sure, that your ad-hoc channel matches the one in your router config page

What speed is your USB port? 1.0 or 2.0? That would make a huge difference. Also, try a differnet USB port of your have an extra.

I have a D link DWL-G122. It keeps getting disconnected. When connected the speed is variable although the cable connection speed is 10MB

atry changing the channel of your router. teh distance of the computer from the router affects the quality of your connection also. you may try updating the driver of your wireless adapter or if all wireless computers are experiencing same problem try upgrading the router's firmware. By the way make sure that there's no wireless devices that is 3 ft away from the router. it should be 5ft or more.

It may also be an issue with a firewall on either computer. If you have McAfee, Norton or Windows Firewall enabled, disable it on both side and try the file sharing again. If it works, you will know that you have to check you firewall rules.
