Remote control does not work for my plasma tv

I have a 42" LG Plasma TV, model #42PC3DVA, not even a year old. We use a universal remote that comes with our digital cable package that we use instead of the original remote that came with the t.v. Anyways, my problem is that, out of the blue, all of a sudden we're not able to turn the tv on or off, or turn the volume up or down with BOTH remotes (plasma and cable). We're able to change the channels just fine, but as for volume and power control...zilch. We're thinking it has something to do with the laser in the t.v. Any suggestions on what to do?

i have the exact same tv, exact same issue. did you ever find a fix? i assume the infrared receiver in the tv is shot since i have 2 remotes that worked just the other day. granted one remote is the one that came with the tv and only operates the tv so i suppose it could be faulty, but my other remote is a universal remote that came with my dish network receiver and it operates the satellite and my dvd player still just fine.

id be interested to know what you ended up finding out. [email protected]

my LG remote suddenly quit turning power on and off, stop changing channels, and would not change input

Do I need a NEW remote or what is wrong? My comcast remote will not control Volume, On/off, just channel change. Where can I get a remote? and Cost? Or is that not the problem?

my remote does not turn my LG tv on. Sometimes it will turn it off, change the channel a few times before that quits, works the valume a few times, and will access the other functions three or four times before it stops working...but it will not turn the tv on!

TV doesn't respond to any controls. Cable remote will change channels but no volume control. Tv remote has no effect on TV. Controls on TV don't work either. New batteries in remote.

I also had this same problem. Both the original remote and my universal remote failed to give any response on the TV. Normally the green light flashes when it receives a command from the remote. Called LG Support and they made me an appointment with a local repair company for 3 days later. This seemed pretty quick compared to other companies repair times I'd read about. However next day the repair company called to say it would be 5 more days before they could get a Tech to my location (downtown ATL). 8 days was a long time to wait but once tech arrived he diagnosed it to a bad board and simply went to his truck and swapped it out with mine under factory warranty. Everything has been fine since.

Sounds strange, sounds like an issue with the TV itself, and not the remote. You could try ordering a remote from a site like http://www.remotecontrolhookup.com/lg/ or you might be best suited to call LG and see if they can send out someone to look at the tv.

I have an old Philips 42 Plasma Ambi-light tv and the remote no longer works. Even with new batteries, it does not light up. Would an new universal remote work on such an old tv? If so, what kind?

A universal remote will work with an older TV.
There may be some specific functions that are not available, but the basic functions will. If you have a cable box remote, you should be able to program it to turn the TV on and change the Volume,

Need universal remote control code for maxent 42" plasma tv?

I hope that you have gotten this resolved, but if not, or if you have any other questions, here are the codes and some simple steps to run through.

1. Hold down the clear TV button until all lights light up at the top of the remote
2. Punch in a 3 digit code (provided below)
3. Press the # (POUND) button
4. Try powering the tv on/off, and the volume. If one or more of these functions do not work, start over from step 1 with a different code

LG 42" Plasma TV - remote control problem

Well the first thing you need to figure out is if the problem is in the remote or the TV, right?

So what I'd do is get a universal remote - they're like $5 at Target - and try to command the TV with it.

That's one quick, easy and affordable way to know where the problem is. And it gets you to have a spare universal remote, just in case.

Once you know more, you explore the options.

REmote won't work

Buy a universal remote & program it for your TV. That's what I had to do. They don't cost that much & they are just as good, if not better (more features) than the remote that came with your tv. Sorry but I went thru this & this was the best solution!
