Says memory full and will not work

My unit keeps saying the memory is full. It will not work anymore. This is the third Garmin 660 I have had and after a little while the same problem happens.

My Garmin 660 says memory full and navigates to Europe each time.  In a phrase 'its a pile of ****' and I paid £399 for it...sick!

I have Nuvi 250. Suddenly it started to say "Memory full" and "Waypoint memory full". It shows maps but d't routing.
Connected to PC USB I see about 52 Mb free space.
So I saved files from POI folder ( custom POI) and GPX folder (current) then disconnected Nuvi and OFF.
Next step- depressing LOWER RIGHT corner of screen get ON.
I got " Are you realy want to erase all user data?"- Yes
    And now problem solved!!

You must again make your settings and copy poi and gpx back.

Hi dogman33, This is a common problem with the nuvi 660s with older firmware. Garmin's solution is to perform a "hard reset" and to upgrade the device firmware. Upgrading firmware is an easy procedure, just visit Garmin's website (www.garmin.com) and download the software called WebUpdater. Run that and follow its directions. Here is how you can perform a hard reset to clear all your waypoint memory: MAINTENANCE MODE: Step 1. Turn your Nuvi unit off, remove any SD cards from the SD card slot and make sure that the unit is not plugged into any computer. Step 2. Place a fingertip on the upper left hand corner of the touch screen and keep it there while turning the unit on, a prompt should read " Do you really want to start in maintenance mode?" Step 3. Select the yes button. Step 4. Enter your PIN if enabled. Step 5. Main Maintenance Mode screen should have 4 selections: System information View Diagnostics Clear User data Clear Waypoints Step 6. Choose "Clear Waypoints". After some time the unit should reboot. Hope this is helpful! spydee

My Garmin 660 will no longer plot a destination...

Have you loaded a lot of JPGs or MP3s on the internal memory? If so, you have reduced the amount of memory available to the 660's OS. Not sure if the 660 stores calculated routes directly to the internal flash memory, but it is very likely, since it keeps your route when you power it down.

To unload the internal memory, consider buying an SD card - they are cheap right now. As a matter of fact, I just ordered an 8GB SD card for my 660 from Amazon for $13. The 4GB and 2GB cards are available for about $7 and $3 respectively. Drrrrrt cheap!

You can access the internal memory of the 660 on your computer with the USB cable you got with the 660. The two folders to focus on are the JPEG and MP3 folders. Simply copy these folders' contents to the root directory of the SD card, and then go into each folder in the GPS memory and delete the MP3s and JPEGs you added - should work better. The 660 will recognize the files on the card if left in folders named identically to the folders in the internal memory.

If you didn't add any content to the internal memory, that is a different issue altogether, probably something to discuss with Garmin. Could be as simple as upgrading the firmware. Make sure you select the correct version though, or it could be a fancy brick! Go here for the nuvi 660:

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsUpdates.jsp?product=010-00540-00&cID=164&pID=31946

Good luck, and I hope this helped!

Won't pick up satellites

It fixed my garmin Nuvi 660:
With the unit off press firmly on the upper left hand corner of the screen with the tip of your finger.

2. Press the power button. When you see the screen light up let go of the power button but continue to press on the upper left hand corner of the screen until you receive the message "Do You Really Want to Start Up In Maintenance Mode?"

3. Say Yes and then select the third Option "Clear All User Data" and then say Yes.
4. The unit will then start up and ask you to set some preferences.

5. Once the unit is on the Main Menu please sit it in a safe place outside with a clear view of the sky for about 10 minutes and let it lock on to the satellites.

Data card for nuvi 660

No, you do not require an additional SD card for your unit in order for it to operate. Also, you can purchase ANY SD card and it will work with additional maps and POIs. They are upselling you.

It doesn't sound like you're buying from a reputable Garmin dealer. Make sure they're a Garmin dealer in case you have any problems.

Nuvi 660 not working

1-Check if you have 500 waypoints, Thats the maximum.

Be sure you delete the recents search via the menu. the recent use when you did a search for a place or adress, just delete.

2- could you confirm both of you if you did not add any other maps into the units ?

3- How many MP3 you have into the GARMIN files ?

Need this to answer your question properly ?

It should not happen if you did not overload the unit 660.

Everything has a maximum who is published by the manufacturer.

Best regards

Memory full is being displayed when i try to go to a new destination and when i try to delete a favourite the unit turns off.

Garmin nuvi 610 T
memory full was being displayed on screen whilst on destination ,sometimes followed by route waypoint memory full .

I found by turning unit off , then holding finger on top left of screen ,and at the same time turning back on again the unit would go into maintenance mode.
Follow prompts on screen to reset waypoint memory.
Mine works as good as gold now, hope this helps!
