The tone-arm on my turntable automatically stops too early. Is there any way to fix this?

Yes. you need to set the travel on your arm. I don't know your specific model but they are all the same concept. On the back by the pivot point there should be a small screw that you can adjust the travel before it returns.

JVC turntable AL-E300 turntable slowing down when tone arm moves iacross

Even if the belt looks fine it's almost certainly the problem. You mentioned "cleaning" - if you got any kind of fluid on the belt it might act as a lubricant and reduce the friction between the belt and the drive wheel, causing the turntable to slow when the tone arm puts a drag on it. The problem may go away when the belt dries out.

Tone arm will not move over on self-start unless

Hi, they are not an auto start model turntable. To start lift tone arm off rest and move into position at start of record. It will automatically lift and return to rest as well as shut off at end of record. cheers john ,, Styluscity.com

Tone arm comes out and touches record, then goes back to cradle

See what kind of arm position sensing elements are used in your turntable (micro switches, optics or possibly other) and check if they work correctly - sometimes a microswitch can be damaged or have oxydized internal contacts or a badly soldered / broken wire and it will not function properly, causing the unit to stop automatically, the same might happen if the sensor is of optical type and there is some dust or broken wires or if the emmiter or sensor is damaged. Also, it could be a problem with the part that activates the switch / optics, it might be displaced or damaged.

If all sensors / switches seem to work well, then check the section which has wires going to those sensors / switches, it's the next probable location of the fault (it might be an electronic controller so there could be damage to some components, broken wires, dirty connectors or bad solder contacts).

It could as well be something else in the mechanisms, wiring or electronics, i just suggested a few things that might cause the malfunction you described.

Hope you can get it fixed.

Arm does not track properly but skips across records

Just guessing, but it sounds like you haven't counterbalanced your tone arm.  When a tone arm skips, it's usually because there's too much counter weight on the rear of the tone arm.  You want between 3-5 grams, but first you have to calibrate your tone arm (balance it so you know where zero is).  If you don't know how to do this, refer to the Ion directions called "Tonearm Setup" in the instructions.

Tone arm won't drop

This is a tough one. There is usually a series of gears that function in unison to make all the magic happens. These gears are usually set in motion by a smaller belt located inside the unit. If this belt has come off or is damaged, your unit will not work. Or, if the gears have cracked, or dried up, same issue.

Suggest taking it to a service center for repair.
