Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9564J Top Load Washer
My washer stopped spinning. I found the plastic gear inside the gearbox was stripped. I replaced the pinion set and it worked for several loads and now it doesn't spin at all. It will fill, agitate, drain and rinse but no spin. I have checked the timing of the gears inside the transmission and everything seems to be ok. Any suggestions?
Check the lid switch. Most washing machines will exhibit the issues you are talking about with this condition. Magnetic switches go out all the time. Too bad, the mechanical type is much mode durable. You can check it a number of ways.. Jump the leads and see if it spins, check your owners manual for a 'test cycle' pull the switch out and visually inspect it (quite often they are clear plastic on the back side), place a magnet over the switch and check continuity on its leads.

If the washer will agitate and drain but will not spin you either have a bad gearcase or the nylon finger that engages the brake is bad. you need to remove the gearcase and check the brake assembly and if that is good replace the gearcase

If the washer won't finish a spin cycle, it probably means that your timer went bad or stalled. You can take the control panel off and look at the contacts for scorching or corrosion.

SOURCE: My Whirlpool washer won't agitate or spin . But it does drain the water.
i also had the same problem, and it ended up being the coupler. It was not hard to replace, it cost me about 19.00. I didn't follow full recomende instructions. I tipped the washer backwards. Removed the drain pump and the motor itself. Then I removed the old coupling and placed the new one. The washer is working like new...

I had the same problem with this washer. It was the lid switch.
