Icemaker problems The door/flap on my icemaker does not open to release cubes or crushed ice. When I dig the ice out of the shute and manually open the flap, it does not close, causing a build up of frost in the freezer. Is this an item worth fixing for aprox $250. or is this a design issue that will need constant attention? Thanks.

Woody, This is one of the easier dispenser assy. to fix. The flapper is pretty simple, it clips on to the hinge assy. The hinge assy. has a spring that closes the flapper. There is a selenoid that pulls the flapper open. You can look up the parts on the net to see what they would cost. Flapper-12562701, hinge assy. 67004119, solenoid-12575401,spring 12565502. I don't know if you need all of them, Im not there to see. But if you have some time on your hands you could save a lot of money doing it yourself. Once fixed, you should be good for a long time. Check the evaporator system, that release the cubes, when that does not work the cubes stay stuck inside.

you have to take apart the complete ice maker from inside the freezer as it has to be cleaned on a regular basis to operate properly. check with your owners manual, it tells you how to clean it.the ice cube shoot is the first to freeze up & block your flow of ice. it's not hard to do. all the best.

Icemaker dispenses crushed ice when you select cubed ice

GE has a problem with the flap on the door which lets the ice out , not closing due to a rusted solenoid behind the panel . If this flap does not close , frost will get inside the ice bin , not letting the bin flap open to let cubed use come thru, only crushed . You can defrost the ice bin front and replace the door flap solenoid easily . If this is the problem , repost about replaceing the flap solenoid for further instructions if needed .

Ice cube tray overflowing-not shuting off automatically

Yes that is a plastic extension for the icemaker shut off. When replaced the new one should be secured with two small zip ties. You can use the ice on/off button to shut the icemaker off manually in the mean time. When ice is displayed in the panel it is on and when it is off so is the icemaker.

Replaced 'door shoot' in icemaker dispenser.. now the door will not open for the ice to come out into the cup/glass. any ideas? i feel pretty sure that its been put back together correctly. the light...

the acutator that controls flap may be faulty or is not getting power.

Can't make ice cubes only crushed ice

Hi: There is a flap right where the ice dispenses. When you remove the bin you will see it when inverted. This flap has to open for the ice to be cubed. You might rember a slap as it swung open when it worked. There is a bar that runs from the flap to the back of the dispenser. Work it manually to see if it's jammed or broken. If not look at the back of the freezer and remove the metal panel if neccessary, to find the jam or defective part. I hope this helps, Jeff

the actuating paddle that you are depressing to dispense ice actually pushes the door open at the top of the dispensor, soundsas if thered an issue withthe actuator arm

pull the icemaker out, say be one inch, shack it a bit, and jam it back in. We've done that each time we had that problem, before it started to work. The icemaker is designed poorly, my openion, and gets jammed easily each time you use the crushed ice. crushed ice jams the ice crusher, and cloggs the pathway resulting a no ice dispensing situation. Also try using only whole ice cubes, instead of the crushed ice. the less you use the crusher the less you'll have to problem. one last thing. if the ice is sitting in the basket for a while, due to poor ice despensor opening door design, the ice in the basket cloggs together causing the probelm.

Icemaker problem crushed only not cubes

Whenever the ice tray is removed, you need to reposition the cube/crush selector rod that is attached to the bottom of the ice tray. This rod swivels: down position for crushed, up position for cube. At the back of the freezer, there is an opening to which this rod inserts. It houses the solenoid for cube/crushed operation. For cube position, the horizontal plastic piece is slightly above the center of the opening. Slide out the tray until the rod is past the solenoid. Pry the solenoid down as far as it can go. It is spring loaded and will not break. (If it doesn't feel like it is spring loaded, stop here and call a repair tech.) Now swivel the rod on the tray up and slide back in making sure the end of the rod is ABOVE the solenoid. DONE!!! Now you have cube ice. Good Luck.
