Question about Canon PowerShot A70 Digital Camera
Camera was working fine then all of a sudden LCD viewfinder shows black screen with noise. and when i take a photo it is the same....Black with digitl noise and video with sound but picture... the same but older picture can be shown as they were taken as well as menus i tried to connect the camera with the computer and take pictures using remote capture but same problem tried to format the camera but no use the wierd thing is that after the problem occured, the camera worked again fine for few days then again happened the same problem a friend suggested the CCD is damaged?? Any suggestions
On the other hand, if you're not in the US, you may be out of luck. I've been experiencing the described problem, but I'm living in the Czech Republic these days. Canon here is just ignoring my emails and when I call, I can never reach anyone who admits to speaking English, and Canon in the US insists they can't do anything to help me. Snarl.

I found this website after my camera began showing a black LCD screen with Lines , so I took the advice listed here on this website and contacted Canon. had to answer a few questions but they emailed me a prepaid label to mail it in for repairs.......sent my camera off December 4, 2007 and it returned as good as new today December 17, 2007. Replaced the CCD image sensor.
I was so glad to get it back for the christmas holiday with no charge ....the people were great and the service was fantastic...

I had the same problem, could view old images on the memory card, but got a black screen (no viewing for taking photos) and when i tried to take a picture - it came out black also. I called canon at the 1800 828 4040 number and they said the problem does seem to be the same as above. they are sending me a pre-paid shipping label to send the camera in for repair - they just said that if anything else is wrong, it can be repaired at my cost. I am optomistic that this will be resolved - i'll try to remember to post an update :). thank you all for you postings!

I have the same problem with my Canon Powershot A70 digital camera, and just came across another forum that directed me to the Canon website where they address this very problem and give instructions as to how to go about having it repaired at no cost to you and they pay shipping and handling too! It is due to a defective CCD card. I was very pleased with this info and hope you are too!

Canon has issued a service bulletin that includes this camera (and this problem) - the trouble seems to be a faulty CCD image sensor - if that's the case, they will fix your camera for free. Call 1-800-828-4040. More info at http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&keycode=2112&fcategoryid=221&modelid=8776

Yes, something is most likely wrong with the CCD (or the connections to the CCD). The A70 is a relatively old camera, so failures like this are rather common. In the worst case, it may be time for a new camera.
