I also have a Toshiba TN55X81 with what I thinks is a convergence problem. I get some double imaging in a semi-circle confirguration at the bottom of the screen. I would be willing to try replacing the board myself if someone could give me an idea which board my problem most likely originates from. The TV is only 6 years old and has been great up until this issue. I've seen some of the repair quotes for a housecall and I'm seeing $ 500-$600 estimates - not sure if it would be worth that kind of investment - please advise.

Whay board is bad? PTS electronics have a lot of boards available for this set. Call 10800-844-7871 and ask them about the board you need, Here is a list of boards available for your set from PTS.

I have a TN55x81. the picture will just stop working (goes black). I will shut it off for about 5 minutes and then it will work fine. Some times for 2-3 days and other times just 10-15 minutes. Any ideas??

Intermittent problems on this type of TV are often because of cracked solder joints on the circuit board. They can be hard to see. When the TV gets warm, parts on the board expand and move by tiny amounts, sometimes with the right amount of expansion or vibration from the speakers, the broken solder joint looses connection and the unit shuts down. When things cool-off, the contact can be made again all by itself and everything fine until it happens again. Given the random nature of your problem, this is a suspected problem. Often it is the solder around the lead of a large component which is mounted to a heatsink.

The video on ours keeps distorting by 'crunching in' from the sides randomly. Any thoughts??

Ur tv have a problem call convergence,it dead.The convergence board require 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors to be replaced to solved convergence problems.U know how to do soldering?Have soldering iron,tools and solders?Tries Websites like Tvrepairworld.com,Tvrepairkits.com to buy a convergence kit to repair it ur self.The shop will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.

My toshiba tn55x81 is getting lines in the screen. nothing major but the main problem is that it is losing its color focus after about 5 minutes of being on. i did adjust the color convergence and it did...

the prism is off balance or some bulb burning out, and you might need to replace parts. this would require a tv repairman, it is not an easy thing to do, looking at 200 to 400 repair.

Toshiba TN55X Convergence problem.

You brought up an issue that we hadn't considered. Shortly after hooking up our TV to the receiver with a composite video, our convergence which wacko. My hubby replaced the 2 ICs, but now our power button just flashes red, with no picture. Not sure if new ICs are faulty or if it's another issue. He will replace old ICs to see if problem still exists with turning on the tube. And he'll try disconnecting the video signal to see if problem exists.

Ouch.. may have to consider another tv thanks to new technology ??????

Toshiba TN55X81 Wont turn on but I hear clicking

Pull the three connectors to the yokes on the convergence board. If the set powers up, it's a good chance the STK392-110's need to be replaced. I fixed one today, and it has been running for 6 hours now.

TN55X81 Rear Projection color separation - convergence problem

You shouldn't need to do a board replacement, all you should need to do is manually tune the convergence.

You can do this with the built-in user tool, but there's also a far more powerful set of options in the service mode. To save you the trouble (I advise doing a LOT of reading before attempting any of this) here's a solid set of various tutorials based on what form of "separation" you have occurring:

My Toshiba TE55T11 also has a broken screen. I contacted the Toshiba hot line in Australia and they said that they don't make screens for this TV anymore. so i just got a new Toshiba 72CM9UA.
