My dvd drive was working fine, but now it's not responding. I've tried turning off the power, but all I get is the green indicator light. It won't even eject. Please help.
I bought a SONY DVD burner Model DRX-830U at Best Buy. It worked until I tried to use DVD Shrink. After that my computer (a dell) would recognize the drive but I wasn't able to do anything with the drive. If a CD or DVD was in the drive the computer would tell me that there was nothing in the drive. The button on the drive wouldn't work to open the door to the drive and the there was no way I could open the drive except by putting a paper clip in the little hole just below the tray that come out to open the drive so I could get the disk back.
In an effort to get the drive to work I removed the DVD Shrink program from my computer but the drive still doesn't work. Does anybody out there know anything about this problem?
This in my second Sony DRX-830U. This same thing happened to the previous one two days ago. So yesterday I exchanged it for a new one thinking that there was something wrong with that particular DVD drive . I'll be more specific in what happened. After I installed DVD Shrink I put a DVD movie (the movie SAHARA) into the DVD drive. I then clicked on open disk on DVD Shrink. After that a meesage popped up saying that the region needes to be set. It gave me the only choice of region 1 ( the USA). All the other regions were grayed out. After I clicked on "okay" DVD Shrink said it could not read the disc. So then I went to go eject the disc, by pressing the eject button on the side of the DVD drive, but it would not eject the disk. I noticed that the green light on the drive was on and staying lite. In the owner's manual this means that the drive it busy. Also, I can't just exchange this one (my second drive) for another because Best Buy probably will start getting suspicious of why I am returning their stuff.
I have already tried turning off the drive and disconnecting the USB. Also, unplugging the power cord and the USB from the drive for ten secondsand then reconnecting. I have tried unistalling the drive along with its software (Nero 7 Essentials), and then rebooting my computer to reinstall everything back on and still nothing. I've the same problem as hitdog23. I was only able to use my Sony DRX-830U once. It worked great until I used it with DVD Shrink and now it won't work at all.
I've called a few electronic repair shops but they all suggest I buy a new one since it's too expensive to repair. I even emailed Sony's customer service but that was last week and still no reply. I'm very disappointed.
If you google "Sony DRX-830U DVD Shrink," there are apparantly quite a few people with the same exact problem. I would think that a brand like Sony would warn customers by now with a sticker on the box or something. "Do Not Use with DVD Shrink or Will Turn Into Piece of ****!"

Re:
I an sorry to say but it appears ya drive has gone faulty :( I have seen this a number of times at the shop.. If ya have a stuck disk it can be gotten out by using a straightened paper clip and inserting it into the hole in the front of the drive, and by pushing it in the drive door will be opened.

Try using BurnAware free CD/DVD burning software. You can select the files you want to backup and burn them as a data disk.
Doing a full backup of a computer will copy all applications and data and will consume many DVDs. All you really need to copy is your data, such as your photo folder, music folder, email folder, etc.
Download BurnAware free burner software. Run it. Select Data DVD. Insert a blank recordable DVD in your drive. Add the files you want to backup (photos, music files, documents, etc) and then click on the red Burn button. These files will be burned onto the DVD.
Remember that with stdcall the callee cleans the stack. If you change
the number of arguments that the function takes you'll end up
unbalancing it for the calling function.dll
Have you tried this on another computer and does it work then? If not try that first. Secondly, disconnect all other usb devices as it may be that you are draining too much from your usb hub which means the dvd drive won't function or will function abnormally. Also check your firmware by visiting the manufacturers website. Give these a shot then get back to us to let us know.
Best of luck
