Logitech z-5500 speakers digital setting working but not 100%

Hey i have had my speakers for way over a year now and i have been over the moon with them. I have my speakers set up to my ps3 via optical, recently when i play ps3 games and the setting says digital on the control unit the sound isent as it should be..... for example when i play call of dudty world at war during the cut scenes the audio is perfect as soon as i go into game mode the sounds from the guns play from my rear speakers and not from my center ..... now i know for a fact it dident sound like that a few months ago because i played it preety much to the end and the sound was breath taking..... this happens on other games as well and its only when the control panel says its on a digital source..... this also happens on some digital dvd like my live muse dvd the sound just isent right..... the strange thing is everthing else works fine music is brilliant blah blah .....

The other thing that i have found is that since i restared my pc i have windows XP the sound is only playing from the sub and the front right speaker. i am using just the normal connection for this green jacks blah blah .... like the ps3 sound the pc sound was perfect up to a few months ago ....
Like i have said i have had this system along time now and i no most stuff about it so i am baffled.... the only thing i can think of that i have done differently is i got some new cable from my right rear speaker because i wanted to see if i can improve the qulity of the sound by getting a better quality cable ..... the problems started after i put the one cable in, it worked perfect with it in so i cant see how that one cable can effect the rest of the system. o and before anyone says anything i am using excactly the same sound manager on the pc realtek HD and it was working perfect with that before.... now i dont really care to much about my pc sound not working BUT if anyone can sort out the problem with my ps3 sound i will be forever greatful because its getting to the point where i am not enjoying playing the game and turning it off after 10 mins
cheers

SOURCE: logitech speakers will only play on 2 speakers not 5

Liamog, i bought the exact same speakers and sound card, and i had the exact same problem as you. I tried for days to fix it and it turns out that its only a setting you have to enable in your sound card settigns. If you go into your EAX console for your creative sound card you will find a thing that sams CMSS 3D, and all you have to do is select the button that says Enable CMSS 3d surround. I hope this will fix your problem. Alex.

SOURCE: No sound from Creative Labs Speakers- Please help

to localised your problem, try to plug your speakers to other sound source like mp3 player ,stereo system. if still no sound coming from it,your problem is within the speaker system. perhaps the audio power amplifier ic inside, need to be replaced.

SOURCE: x-540 speakers no sound rear speakers

rear speakers are not designed to put out the same output as fronts. They are for supplemental sound only, to make it seem like there's something happening behind you.

SOURCE: Strange problems with Z-2300's

I'm having this same problem and have sort of solved it with a really wierd technique I found at Logitech. Evidently this problem is related to the control pod rather then the RCA jack. Try this:

Unplug the control pod from the subwoofer Turn off the main switch Turn the volume knob one full turn, tap the knob Repeat again (2 times) Replug the control pod Turn on the main switch and the control pod See what happens

I found that this got the speaker working finicky after it was almost totally useless. It seems to be cutting out randomly, but fidgeting with the control pod or it's connector jack fixes it. No clue what the deal is here, but your problem is identical to mine so take some time to screw around with these components with music running so you can hear if it suddenly works.

Hook up z-5500 suround to a tv

The Sony has (http://b2b.sony.com/Solutions/product/KDL-46S4100)
Digital Audio Output(s): 1 (Rear) Optical Digital Output

The Logitech speakers have (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/home_pc_speakers/devices/224&cl=GB,EN)
Source Inputs:
Digital optical for DVD or CD players, PlayStation®2, Xbox®**

To do this, you need a Digital optical cable--Search Googe for this: Cables Unlimited Pro A/V Series - Digital Audio Cable (optical) - 6 ft

Should work.

Logitech z-5500

Try to click the EFFECT BUTTON a few times to change the effect settings (see also in display) from e.g. Stereo (which uses only two front speakers) to other settings (for which some will use the other (rear/center/sub)speakers as well). Success,

Operating with/without the control panel

You could try hooking them up to another speaker that has the input connections. I have done this before with several different speakers and daisy chained the connections with several speaker connections and they worked great. I had surround sound all over the room. You might run into a problem with the main speaker that you plug into not being able to push all of the speakers that you have but you might get lucky. Those speakers say that that carry 550 watts.
I recently bought a set of speakers that stated that they push 100 watts. The sub was putting out 50 watts and the others were only putting out 25 each. I hooked up a 100 watt speaker to it and it worked. You might be able to contact logitech to get the other speaker that you need. That set of speakers looks awesome on the site. This is the specs for the other speakers

I think that this is what you wanted to know. If it was not your solution, let me know. I will help you more. I might not be understanding your question correct. I have referred your question to someone on the site that works with logitech.

No digital input

the digital input is for conection to dvd player or any other device that has digital output. so if you connect any other type of output it will not work. i have same speakers for couple of years, and know them inside and out (awesome speaks) i hope this is useful info,good-luck.
