Hitachi 53SWX12B: Sound goes out for a while, then comes back on

When turn TV on, the sound is there for a minute or two, then goes out. It will stay out for hours. To get to work again, a lot of times, I will turn the TV off for a few minutes, then back on. I may have to do this several times until the sound stays on. Once it comes back on, it stays on usually. This is the second time this has occurred. It was the main audio converter that went bad. I believe it is the same thing again. My hunch is, that a solder joint must go bad each time. I do not have a schematic for the TV it seems. I am not sure where this device is located in the TV to determine if that is it, and possibly order a new one. Not sure how hard it is to replace....but I don't want to spend a lot fixing the TV again, because it's not worth it.

Just recently my sound started fazing in and out I think am able to fix it myself but not sure what needs to be replaced. Do you have a source where I can buy new products?

Also finding no information on the web on how to fix it and where the problem is, etc. (Pictures are always helpful)

We have had the sound card replaced and repaired 3x prior and now it has gone out again. The last time the part was on a nationwide backorder and the repairman said it was a flawed design from the start at Hitachi. Now we are out of warranty and we are looking for others who might have had the same problem or to find out if someone has taken Hitachi to task about this inferior product. For what we paid for this tv, for it to go out 4 times for the exact same thing is ludicrous and Hitachi should be held responsible for the inferior product.

We have had the same problem -- we had the sound chip replaced 3 times while under warrenty. It broke again after our warrenty ended and now we run the sound through the amp. They told us it was a problem with this TV and I am so frustrated because they NEVER fixed it properly. If this is how Hitachi treats their customers, I will never purchase from them again.

I decided to call Hitachi and explain the problem and basically they said "too bad so sad" because it is out of warranty. Maybe everyone with this problem should call in. I am calling tomorrow to speak with a supervisor. The more I thought about how much we paid for this TV and how many times we had it repaired only to not have sound a few years later makes me so frustrated. The fact that Hitachi is not willing to replace something that is totally their fault is terrible.

Folks, I have the same problem, the sound goes away after a minute or two and then I have turn off the TV and then turn it on after a minute or so. I got so frustrated that I connect my TV to an external system, which gives a much better sound quality now. Hitach is pathetic !!

Same problem with sound I turn it to video 1 instead of off

sound has continued to go out. swapped between video 1 and 2 to find sound. now the sound does not work at all. when we play the wii the sound works but then swap over to watch a show and the sound does not work. from reading all of the other comments, it looks like i should either get a external system or get a repair man

We had the same thing! Hitachi was useless, but did send us to a local replair shop that put in a new sound card in back in '07 for $300, only for the same thing to be happening again now 1 1/2 years later.

We turn the TV on w/o the cable box about 30 minutes before we want to watch anything (if we can) and then it seems ok once it's warmed up.

The part that was replaced was an X480242 - type that into Yahoo and you can order a new one for $176 off ebay, but it will probably go bad again!

Sounds like we'll be adding an external sound system like many of you have recommended.

At least we're all not alone in this - misery loves company!

I have the same problem with mine. Just after I had to get the bulbs replaced the sound started not working as described by all. I called Hitachi and they were completely useless!

I have the same problem with mine, I can also do the ol Fonzy hit it on the side and the sound will come back on. I have re-soldered many bad looking solder joints and I have finally tracked it down to a part # LSK1aF-5v it is located on the board that the main power plugs into at the very back behind a large transformer. The part can be found at .

I think this will fix the sound problem the part number LKS1aF-5v can be purchased from, they carry it as part# 255-1268-ND, are you ready for this? The part costs a whopping $1.49. If you can solder you can fix this in about 5mins. Thanks, [email protected]
