Door lock wont engage

sounds like the door lock mechanism. if this cannot signal it has engaged, to the board, no other function will work (you don't want the washer going with the door open, trust me :) )

I understand that your door indicates it is open and your washer will not operate. Try resetting the unit by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. Wait approximately ten minutes and turn on the washer. Select a normal cycle, confirmed the latched is securely latched and verify if the washer will start. If the washer will not operate then it possibly have a faulty door lock assembly or a communication problem with the control board. At this point, it would be advisable to contact an experienced appliance repair tech to assist further.

At the right end of your panel you will find the 'end of cycle' symbol, to unlock keep this depressed for 3 seconds, this is the child lock feature. You do it again, and the machine locks.

If the door lock will not engage, then the door lock will need to be replaced. Here is the lock to order.

These things are getting more complex and electronic all the time and this does not help with the longevity of these units. It it telling you that there is a defective or intermittent door switch detected and when you reboot the unit it starts with all things at the zero point.
I had a high end Whirlpool washer that had so many things wrong with it by description of the service man that they replaced it after 4 years of use. No more 30 year old washers with all these circuit boards in there- isn't technology wonderful?

Hi - I understand that the door won't engaged, however does it show any other symptoms? Try to start a drain spin cycle and let the unit run for approximately 5-7 minutes and press cancel once. If the door opens immediately, unit made have a bad door lock. If you have to wait for the door to release to open, then possibly you have a control or wiring issue.

Unfortunately I had the same problem and it ended up being the control board not sensing the switch being closed. Had to replace the control board

On some Kenmore front load models, if the black gasket around the door opening is unseated (for example, because you drag some heavy wet laundry over it) the door will not engage the lock and stay closed. This is a feature to prevent the washer from leaking when the gasket is not sealed. To fix it, simply reseat the gasket and the door will close and lock.

fit a new door lock as if it doesnt engage it wont allow the machine to start the washing cycle

First check if u can close the door with no or less clothes and see if the lock is engaged.. else if u find the door not locking see if there is any garments or threads blocking it.
