Sharp R-4A56 microwave oven dead

The microwave is completely dead, no clock or functions. I am thinking it may be a fuse. Is this likely, and how would I change the fuse? Thank you, Terry

Sharp R-4A56 microwave oven buzzed upon starting then went dead.  No problem with circuit.  I've located the fuse but inside the oven there is a note to replace the monitor switch.  Is this really necessary for me to complete the repair?  I can't locate a part number for this model.

Built-in Sharp Carousel II Microwave Convection Oven died.

There are a couple of safety thermostats in the oven to shut down power if something overheats. One is on the magnetron tube (the microwave source), the other is on the cooking cavity. These sometimes go bad. There's also a power line fuse that may have failed, or become loose in its mounting clips. These can be tested with an ohmmeter; they should all measure very close to zero ohms if they're good.

Another possibility is that the control circuit board in the oven may have failed. I have worked on several Sharp ovens where the power transformer for the board has gone bad for no good reason. If the board goes bad the oven may appear to be dead as well.

Microwave servicing is best left to professionals. If you're thinking of keeping this one, take it to a service shop (or call for home service) and get an estimate. Then decide whether to repair or replace.

Hope this has helped a little. Thanks for using Fixya!

Hi, My microwave oven stopped working after I came home from four days of vacation. The digital clock works. What could be the problem? The turn table does not work. Is there any danger opening back of...

if the clock is working then the fuse is fine. if the fuse goes bad the unit would be completly dead. no their is danger removing back panel. as you said make sure the unit is inplugged., however some electrical parts inside hold a charge until discharged.the board could be bad, the door latch or switches could be bad.

Unit dead Unit is dead - suspect blown fuse

Usually, when your microwave oven doesn't work it all, the internal fuse (thermal fuse) is blown. This fuse protects both you and the oven. When it blows, you need to have a qualified appliance repair technician replace it.

The reason for this is that if you do not have any experience and training with microwaves, you can get a SEVERE shock, even if the oven is unplugged. THAT being said, if you still want to know where the fuse is get back to me. good luck.

ALSO, as you may know, a small microwave these days is under fifty bucks at walmart.

Microwave oven stoped worling

maybee, but no.Most microvaves have that problem over a few years because of the heat stress over the fuse and it starts to ware. You can get it fixed by a handyman or a maytag repair man.But are better off buying one for around 60-110 dollars

Microwave stopped working

Chances are the thermal cutout (thermal fuse) on the magnetron opened up. It may or may not also indicate a bad magnetron. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
