If its set to Auto it may be that the camera is compensating for low light by slowing the shutter speed. Here is the link to download your cameras driver, manual, and other items.

When I am using the flash in any mode other than auto, there is a 1 second delay after I hit the shutter release button. Why?

Hi.
this delay happens due to your Flash adjustment. You may have changed it to "SLOW FLASH" accidentally..
go to MENU and find 'Flash set up' sub menu and than cancel 'Slow Flash ' mode..
than you flash will fire again as usual , normal mode..
Hope this helps! Take care and please Remember to rate/vote and give me

Use Focus Lock.

Not applicable for the E-series digital cameras.
The shutter is delayed because of the additional flashes. In turn, make sure the picture's subjects wait for the additional flashes.

You need to press the shutter button half-way and allow the camera to lock in the focus before you press the rest of the way. This eliminates "shutter lag".

Shutter slow in auto mode

Check what ISO ( film speed) Auto is working with

as well as whether you have set TV or AV mode ( shutter VS aperture priority) Auto does not control these factors

Thanks for using FIXYA

HI I AM SAGHA,A CAMERA REPAIRER FROM MUMBAI .I THINK YOU MIGHT HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING SETTING PROBLEMS PROVIDED YOU R GETTING PROPER PHOTOGRAPHS.1}UR CAMERA MIGHT BE ON ANTISHAKE MODE WHICH FIRST LOCKS MIRROR FIRST UPSIDE THEN OPENS THE SHUTTER WHICH MAKES TO FEEL THAT SHUTTER IS DELAYED. SO FIRST REMOVE THAT MODE & OBSERVE THE SOUND.

EOS 30D is slow to fire.

Are you sure you aren't in the delay setting in drive mode? This camera has 2 delay settings, one for 2 seconds between when you press the shutter and when it takes the photo, and one with 10 seconds delay - often used when you want to be in the photo (e.g. self-portrait or group photo).

If you aren't in the delay mode, then I need to know more about your settings. What shooting mode are you using? What type of photo are you trying to take (portrait, landscape, sports)? Are you shooting indoors, outdoors, bright sunlight, overcast, etc.?
