everything works except machine will not spin F & P 5& 6.5 machines smart drive.Pump OK ,power ok Seems as if there is a electronic brake on motor (not a solenoid ) which is not releasing to enable spin.everything works except machine will not spin F & P 5& 6.5 machines smart drive.Pump OK ,power ok Seems as if there is a electronic brake on motor (not a solenoid ) which is not releasing to enable spin.

If your washing machine is not completing the spin cycle and displays an "End" message, there could be a few reasons for this:
Unbalanced load: An unbalanced load can cause the machine to stop spinning to prevent damage to the appliance. Try redistributing the clothes in the machine and restart the spin cycle.
Clogged drain: A clogged drain can cause the machine to stop spinning. Check the drain filter and make sure it is not blocked.
Faulty motor or motor control board: A faulty motor or motor control board can cause the machine to stop spinning. If you hear a humming sound or the drum doesn't turn at all, this could be the issue. In this case, you may need to call a professional to inspect and repair the machine.
Faulty lid switch: A faulty lid switch can prevent the machine from spinning. If the machine doesn't spin but you can still hear the motor running, this could be the issue. You can check the lid switch by opening and closing the lid to see if the machine responds.
If you've checked the load and the drain and neither of those seem to be the issue, you may need to call a professional to diagnose and repair the problem.
Machine not spinning. Have you stood next to machine and listened? When all water is drained out (watch the drain hose for water to stop) then you should hear the spin start and hear it building up speed. If it doesn't then you need to post back here with more detail on what you could hear or see happening. i.e. how long after water stopped draining did machine finish and switch off?

Not knowing what model machine you have, I would hazard a guess and say it is your break solenoid or break arm or a variation on a break system.
After the spin cycle, the break solenoid or break motor engages a break arm to stop and lock your spinning drum. The loud clunk is normal especially in Simpson and Hoover top load machines.
You can check this by putting the machine on a spin cycle. Once the machine gets up to speed, open the door. You will hear the clunck and then the drum stops abrublty. When you close the lid again, you will hear the solenoid release the drum, and then the motor starts spinning the drum again.
If that is the case, it is normal and no need to worry about it. However, if you did not have the noise before, then best to get a repairer to check it out.
Timer is defective. Your unit has a netural drain. When finished agitating, the shuts down and then starts up reversing to drain and spin. On the initial reverse start, the water drains without the transmission spinning. After a timed period 3-4 minutes, the timer is supposed to pause, stopping the motor for a few seconds. When the motor stops again, the transmission shift to the spin cycle and when the timer resumes power tothe motor it should spin. You are doing the same thing when you lift the lid...stopping the timer and then the tranny shifts and when you set the lid down, the washer spins. Replace the timer.......
the lid swich is defective,,,on the right hand side push down on the little switch with a non metal probe ..listen for a click..if no click or you have to push to far down change lid switch
