I was using my computer in both color and black printing then ran outof color inl so I switched to just black printing. I bought new ink in color and black and put it in aligned it and tried to print , my test page prints fine and show the color as well as the black. When I try to print out a paper from Hallmark cards or document or notepad it only prints in black. How do I fix the problem. Please help me.
When you go to print, go to properties for the printer you would like to print. Once there find the tab that says color and make sure gray scale is checked off. It could depend though where that setting is at by printer. Please provide what printer you have. Just the brand no product number or anything only if what i gave at first does not help.

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles. If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive. It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.
Start, control panel, printers, your printer, printer preferences, advanced. Uncheck the complete-a-print boxes and also check to make sure the print in black & white box in unchecked.
I ran this process two months ago when the printer was 4 months in use.
Try running through the manual cleaning process for the print heads.
1-press ink
2-choose cleaning
3-choose ALL. If that doesnt work try cleaning BLACK only.
when the cleaning finishes the machine will go back to standby mode automatically.
see pg 172 in users manual under routine maint.
Before you print through the computer, select Print, then select "Properties". Select the "Color" tab and in there, select "Print in Greyscale" This works for most color printers I have used where the color ink is gone. Hope this helped. Len
Unfortunately it is all true. Personally I would stay away from Lexmark, I am a Canon fan, the MP520 looks real nice, but it's personal choice at the end of the day.
RESTART IN SAFE MODE.
OR
REBOOT SYSTEM, BEFORE IT BOOTS PRESS
F6 UNTIL YOU HEAR THE BEEPING NOISE, THAN STOP AND SELECT SAFE MODE
THAN CONTROL PANEL AND SELECT POWER OPTIONS
POWER BUTTON OPTIONS
Make sure you do NOT have Use color cartridge for all black printing selected.
(I had set that a while ago when my black cartidge ran out when the kids had a paper due - I forgot I had reset it. Once my color cartidge ran low, everything printed pink).
press menu then start mono (blue copy button) then fourtimes arrow up (tel index). machine will be in maintenance mode. press 7 then 6 then 4 then start mono. machine will initialize the carts and do some cleaning cycles.
If you're outside can/us: after that press zero then nine. machine prints test print. If youre inside leave maintenance mode and run a test print manually.
if you cant see any bk the ph is clogged and cant be fixed anymore (because of wrong ink: pigmented ink will clogg the filter infront of the nozzels; use ONLY dye-ink for all colors!)
leaving the maintenance mode by pressing 9 then 9.
