Dishwasher is not pulling water into the unit in the wash cycle, but does in the rinse cycle. I could probably fix myself, but dont know what I am looking at. Thanks for your time.
Check inlet valves as if you have 2, it may fill using 2 inlets (hot & cold) but only rinse on using 1 ((cold only). So if the cold inlet is faulty, then you will only notice on the rinse. If thats not it then chances are it is the controller unit.

the water does not get into the dishwasher open the dishwasher 3-4
times during cycle, if you don't see any water at least once - check
water valve, water level float and water pressure.
the pump is clogged - there is water, the motor will run but no water is circulated. Check pump filters, check chopper and impeller.
motor in main pump is not working - could be caused by something
stuck on the impeller or chopper or could be a problem with the motor
itself or control board. Check if line voltage is coming to the motor
during wash/rinse cycle.
I had the same problem (water remaining in the bottom) after the rinse cycle. FYI my GE Nautilus is 7-years old.
(1) I disconnected the drain tube at the garbage disposal unit (in the sink) and, using a wire coat hangar freed a 'plug' of sludge located at the spot where the drain tube clamps onto the garbage disposal. I blew into the drainage tube to further clear other 'plugs' I observed but could not reach w/the coat hangar.
(2) I unscrewed the Filter/Strainer on the inside (bottom) of the dishwasher; and further removed the inner filter; cleaned both out.
(3) Re-ran the dishwasher thru complete wash/rinse cycles (to check for leaks. There were none.
Finally, upon completion of the w/r cycles there will always be a small pool of water (residing in the filter area). However my dishes are clean and (after 7-years) checking the drain tube and filters was a breeze.
Hope this helps
Check disposer plug. If a garbage disposer has been recently installed, it is possible the disposer drain plug was not removed. The drain plug is a plastic piece in the disposer that blocks the hole where the dishwasher hose connects. Also check the hose connected to the disposal. Mine apparently had a kink in it. When I straightened the hose the dishwasher drained at full speed (I recently had a plumber re-route a hot waterline. He must has bent the hose). Hope this helps. If not go to the GE website. That's where I found my answer.
check water level is ok. check its heating. open door when in operation and check if spray arms are rotating. if not, take them out, run water into centre hole and check water comes out of jets. note the spray arms only rotate with water coming out of angled jets at end
The problem might be with a faulty water valve (located at the bottom of the dishwasher, behind the kick panel, on either side on most models), in which case replace the water valve.
