IPhone shutting down before battery is over

My iphone keeps going to sleep when the battery gauge indicates that it is half full. I know it's not possible to change the battery and I'd really hate to go to the store again to fix it, such a waste of time. Can anyone think of a way for me to solve this issue?

    Not much help there...
I love the iphone BECAUSE it is more than a regular phone. I doubt that Apple would have made so much money had people not want more than a phone.

  • Anonymous Jul 27, 2007

    Viewfinder, thanks for the reply.
I think my iphone is corrupted. It simply shuts down and won't turn on until I recharge it.
I will go to the store next week to fix it.

BTW, what does it mean "battery power management is a key function of the iPhone's brain due to the nature of modern lithium batteries"
what is so special about the modern lithium batteries?

The iPhone is always "on" it just blanks the screen to save power. What are you trying to do when the screen goes blank? Music and podcasts will continue to play, but you may need to be plugged in to power to watch a movie after the battery power is half used. Note: battery power management is a key function of the iPhone's brain due to the nature of modern lithium batteries. In other words, this is a feature not a "bug".

Unlike the batteries found in older products (alkaline, NiCad, NiMH) lithium batteries can be ruined by discharging them too much. They also have a more serious problem with the rate at which they are charged (see Wikipedia for more info). They are also expensive in terms of their initial cost. Why use them? One-half the weight and twice the capacity is the main reason.

How can i format my iphone?

Download the latest iTunes to your computer and reset the iPhone. Then re-sync it.

Reset

To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. During this time, a red "power off" slider may appear and the screen may go black, but do not release Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears.

If iPhone won't turn on, or the display freezes or doesn't respond

  1. Press and hold the Home button for at least six seconds, until the application you were using quits.
  2. If that doesn't work, turn iPhone off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPhone for a 10 seconds until a red slider appears, and then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
  3. If that doesn't work, reset iPhone. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

More resets:

Try This:
1. Remove Sim Card
2. Hold in 'Home' button and 'On/Off' button together until Apple logo appears

3.) Hold down HOME button on the iPhone 3G
4.) While keeping the HOME button depressed, plug in the Sync cable
5.) A message will pop up to ask if you want to reset.

My Ipod touch will only turn on when plugged into the wall or the car charger. When connected to the computer the apple logo flashes on and off but will not do anything.

do this...
While connected to a power source, try to reset the iPod touch. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until either the Apple logo or battery symbol appears. If the battery symbol appears, continue to charge iPod touch until it is fully charged. if still doesnt power on try this.. Use the following steps to place your device into recovery mode. If the device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
  2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the the iPhone or iPod touch to turn off.
    • If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
  3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPhone. When you reconnect the USB cable to iPhone, the device should power on.
Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure the battery has some charge and then start with step 2 again.ht1808_01.jpg
  4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
    ht1808_03.png
  5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
    ht1808_02.jpg
  6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
also maybe your unit have been in contact with liquid You can tell if the headphone-jack Liquid Contact Indicator has been triggered by looking directly down into the headphone jack. Use a lighted magnifying glass or angle the iPhone or iPod so light shines down into the headphone jack. At the base of the headphone jack, you should see what is normally a white or silver-colored dot. The dot will become full or half red or pink when the dot has come in contact with water or a liquid containing water. To view the dock-connector indicator on iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS, use a lighted magnifying glass and hold the device so that you can view the center bottom of the dock-connector housing. A full or partial red dot will appear if the indicator has been triggered.

a feedback would be much appreciated
