Usually when cords are wrapped around the base of the plug, it creats a short in the cord. And most people *do* wrap cords around objects to create convienent space. basicly it was the cord not the system.

My GBA SP wont charge

The lead or plug on your charger may be cracked. I have a SP charger but it has a bit of the plastic cracked off and has to be in a certain position to work properly. Otherwise you will need a new battery.

Other ways to charge a gameboy sp.

hi

you can normally buy a portable charger , it sounds like the pins in the charger have gone ,so it may be a case of buying a new charger these can be picked up on the net quite cheaply
or you could try getting a needle and bending the pins back into the shape they are meant to be , to get an idea look at your other charger

hope this helps

Where to get Charger

Here is a charger for charging through a computer's USB port: http://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-Charger-Cable-Gameboy-Advance/dp/B0000AWA58

For replacement chargers, you can check www.nintendo.com or you may be lucky enough to find one at RadioShack, EB Games, or GameStop.

Charging

IF YOU HAVE A VOLT METER , MEASURE THE OUTPUT OF YOUR CHARGER, SHOULD HAVE A dC VOLTAGE AROUND 6V. IF YES, NEXT COULD BE THE BATTERY BAD OR THE CONNECTOR FOR CHARGER TO PLUG IN HAVING CONTACT PROBLEM. HOPE IT HELP.
