Camera Is Not detected by computer

I have a powershot digital elph SD1100 IS:

When I plug my camera into the USB port, the connection sound is made, but the screen does not go black on the camera -- and says that the camera is not detected. Although the connection sound is made.

I have tried several things:
1. Resintalling the program twice
2. Turning the computer on and off
3. Trying to Make a connection without the program installed

It worked completely fine when I first bought the camera but now after a couple weeks - it is no longer working.

Please help! Thank you!

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Depending on your OS, you can download the latest driver for your system directly from Canon here. Remember to select your OS in the dropdown tab to be able to see the available downloads.

But I'd also recommend that you take this as an opportunity to consider utilizing a much safer method of downloading your pictures and videos. Please see this link, as it describes the use of a USB card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. Note that card readers are also VERY inexpensive these days (some places less than $2 online with shipping).

SOURCE: Trying to upload pictures to

This type of problem arises many times,at first they work but the more you use them the terminals tend to loosen up,even if the camera is new.So most of the time my best solution for that is to purchase a multiple memory card reader(usb 2.0).Most don't require any installer, just plug the reader to your computer and slide in any memory card you have and you will be able to upload any media you want. What I have is Ohm USB multi card reader/writer,it has been doing it's job since I got it.
