Question about IBM ThinkPad G40 Notebook

Device Name Hi, could you please tell me the name of the device needed to run a data projector. The laptop I have is a IBM think pad t40 23883. When we plug the projector in, the screen goes purple/pink. Cheers Lize

Press Fn key located near to left CTRL key and F4 key . Fn + F4 Keys If display does not comes then try to prsee the same combination 2 - 3 times.

Laptops with a VGA output on the back shouldn?t need any type of ?device? for the projector to work. If its displaying an image with odd colors I would suspect a problem with the projector or the cable that connects them. The easiest way to determine if it?s the projector/cable or the laptop is try connecting it to another PC or laptop.

Check for the USB device drivers. If you are getting Yellow icon then try to uninstall drivers and install again.

What is the meaning of thinkpad?
The meaning? There is no implicit meaning behind the term thinkpad, it was a made up term by IBM for their laptops. The ThinkPad name itself was inspired by leather-bound pocket notepads issued to all IBM employees with the corporate motto 'Think' embossed on the cover. The combination of Think and NotePad lead to the name ThinkPad. IBM's corporate naming team was initially against using the ThinkPad name since all previous IBM computers were referred to by model numbers rather than names. However, the popularity of the ThinkPad brand with the press convinced IBM to retain the name.

The same model ThinkPad can have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless you know exactly which one is installed in your ThinkPad, you need to download all the drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver.

When you download the drivers, write down the device driver and it's file name so you have a record of which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files are located on your hard drive.

Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model computer, Use this link: -

T40 2373 no wireless connection
Hi it sounds like your driver is missing or corrupt , this may be the case if u have recently installed windows, go to control panel click on sytem icon then click on device manager button under the hardware tab, have a look then under network adapters to see if there is a yellow warning icon if so make a note of the name and you should be able to download the driver from this location. its near the bottom under networking wireless.

Where is the switch to turn on the wireless for the ibm thinkpad t40
The T40 does not have a switch to turn the wireless card, the correct wireless driver only needs to be installed.

How to fix the wireless controler in a think pad
When you download the T40 device drivers from the IBM/Lenevo WEB site make sure you select your model laptop and, they need to be the XP or Vista versions of the drivers you need.
When you run the driver programs they will be unzipped/expanded to the hard drive in a folder c:\drivers. Then you need to open the various folders and run the setup programs to install the various drivers.
NOTE - The T40 series laptops come with various different manufacturers devices (eg. there are a few different wireless model LANs) and if one version driver doesn't work you need to install a different one. It is a bit of trial and error to find the right one

I restore my IBM Thinkpad G40 no internet access now I set the factory setting by push the IBM access button on start up now when i go to control panel i have no access to internet dsl nor wireless. My thinkpad has a wireless button which is located on the F5 button. The internet was working fine but the computer was moving really slow so i try to restore factory setting. How can i get my internet back up and running since i have no way of selecting an option to either enable or disable a network. I'm really not any good at computers. Thanks
