There are buttons on the front of the monitor. Why

My manual doesn't say anything about what these buttons are for. e , auto and menu , <> ,circle with a line. There is no description in the manual. I don't even know how to turn this off so the light on circle with light goes off. Help. Thanks

You are using all these letters which are greek to me. What is OSD? What is HPos, VPos, clock and focus . I just want a picture and to know what each button does. Help. Why are they there.

  • nomilynne Jan 29, 2009

No I'm not kidding. What is OSD?. Can you give the words these letters stand for? I can get it a lot faster if I know what the letter abreviations mean. I can do pretty well if people don't throw a lot of letters at me. I was not raised in the computer age but am struggling manfully.

The first button is the E-power button for the Auto preset function. With it you can select presets like text, standard, graphics etc. depending on your use.
When you select any button the options are displayed at the bottom of the window. These tell you what button to press to select the next option.
For example press --menu-- > -- > -- menu , to adjust the horizontal and vertical position.

To turn off the monitor you must press and hold the --circle with the line -- button for a couple of seconds.

I work with the technologically challenged all the time!!
    OSD means On Screen Display
HPos and Vpos are Horizontal and Vertical Position
With this monitor unless something goes seriously wrong you should not have to make any focusing adjustments as the auto adjust will do that for you in most every instance.

Auto adjust in progress

1. Push the menu button at the front side of your Dell monitor. The icon looks look like a miniature version of your monitor.

2. Push the menu button again. This will exit the monitor menu and launch the OSD (On-Screen Display) menu.

3. Use the down arrow button on your monitor to select "Factory Reset."

4. Push the menu button.

5. Use the down arrow button to select "All Settings." Press the menu button to save changes.

6. Push the menu button twice to exit from the menu. Your Dell monitor will go back to its factory settings default, and its auto-detect feature will be disabled.

Need the operation manuel for my 22inch Gateway monitor can't change operating language

I have a smaller sized Gateway monitor than yours, but I'm sure the monitor buttons (on the front) perform the same functions on all sizes.

You should have eight control buttons on the front of the bezel (as listed from left to right): source, menu, down arrow, up arrow, left arrow, right arrow, auto/set, and on/off buttons.

Press the menu button, the first dialog screen that appears (at least on mine) is the brightness/contrast function. The screen will show the function to be changed, and a very small picture of what screen you have in view.

Once the first function is listed on the screen, press the down arrow to access the other screens (color, tracking and set-up), each having their own little picture indicating what screen you are looking at.

Brightness/contrast - picture of half light, half dark circle
color - RGB picture
tracking - two squares on top on one another slightly off center
set-up- hand pointing left

You want the set-up screen which shows a picture (I think) of a little hand pointing to the left. Once you are in the set-up screen, press the auto/set button and the first line will be highlighted (usually it is the language choice).

Once highlighted, press the right arrow button until your language name appears (i.e., English, Duetsch, Francais, Espanol Italiano, -there is no choice on mine for Japanese, etc.).

Press the menu button again and that should do it.

I need to reset my margins for Windows XP

Your monitor should have a button on it that says "Auto". Press that. If it doesn't have a button like that, then find one that says "Menu" and look through the Menu to find something like "Auto-config". Alternatively, you could use your monitor's menu to manually adjust the horizontal position of your screen.

NEED HELP WITH AUTO CONFIGURATION

You can download a copy of the manual from hp by going here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=324216&os=228&lang=en&

and picking the "monitor user's guide" link.

The auto configuration is just a choice from the main menu. If your monitor OSD is locked so you can't select anything (you get a message when you press any button), you can follow the manual procedure to unlock it. But unless there is some electronic problem with the monitor, you should not be having trouble with autoconfiguration.
