Free up hard drive space

I have a 30 GB HDD JVC Everio hard disk camcorder (GZ-MG57U).  I have removed all of my video files from the camera and when I plug it into my computer, it says that I have only 8 GB available for use.  Why do I not have the full 30 GB?  My trash is empty and my playlists are empty--I don't understand.  It is configured as a FAT32,  and I run a mac--could that be the problem?  Can I restore the camera to it's factory settings?

It's probably just misreporting the capability. The camera uses 2 folders that are approximately 16 gigs (magically all hard drives lose a few gigs don't ask me why). But in FAT32 partitions, only 4 gigs can be used at the most at one time, so it might be guessing there are just 2 4 gig capacity folders.

Do i need a memory card to record..

No you do not need a memory card to record. The JVC Everio GZ-MG130 is a hard disk drive camcorder with a built-in 30 gigabyte hard drive to record to. You can, however, use an SD memory card if you want to add additional space to save your videos and pictures to.

I have a JVC Everio GZ-MG57U camcorder that came with XP download software. My problem is I now have Vista and am left with no way to transfer video from the camcorder hard disk to my computer. Are there...

Use this site to see if there are any compatibilities problems with vista.
http://www.jvc-victor.co.jp/english/download/vista.html

Then there is an upgrade site from cyberlink just for JVC customers. Sorry though, looks like you might have to pay for the upgrade.

Hopefully someone comes up with a free way to connect and share with your PC.

I have lost my installation disk for JVC Everio camcorder 60gb HDD. I want to playback on my PC as the Windows Media payer does not pick up the files. Cheers

u may not have the appropriate codecs. Kindly check the extension of the video files and search for the codecs, download them and it would be a walk in the park ....

on pc bottom left: click START>>then click My Computer; win explorer opens
