I have a Lowrance X65, when you power up the unit the screen shows LCD test mode. you have to hit exit twice to get the unit to a full screen mode. However, the unit does not remember any of teh settings such as temp, fish ID, MPH. What can i do?

  • Anonymous Jan 24, 2013

The unit works fine after you hit the exit button twice. This sends the unit back to the full screen mode, only problem is you have to reset all your settings, such as fish ID, Temp, Speed. once you turn the unit off it will go back to the LCD test mode. Then you have to reset all the settings each time you power doen the unit.

Transducer will stop getting readings if it gets air under it. If it's lower surface is too much above or below the bottom of your boat, this can happen.

SOURCE: proper set up for lowrance sonar

Where do you use your boat?

There are so many variables it's hard to fit it all here, but there are some excellent tutorials on the Lowrance website. The most important thing is to pick the right frequency, for the depth of the water. (200khz for less than 70', and 50 khz for greater depths). Depending on how serious you are about fishing, there are a lot of extras that you may never use. The key is to figure out which features will help you the most and forget about the rest.

You may also get some help at this link: FixYa Service Directory

It's common for SONAR to lose contact with the bottom at high speeds. The better the transducer installation, the faster you can go. Turbulence and bubbles will cause the SONAR to drop out. Lowrance's transducer installation guide explains it very clearly.

SOURCE: How do you get the fish to show up on the screen

Are you looking for the little fish symbols?
Press MENU, down arrow to SONAR FEATURES and press ENT. Arrow to FISH SYMBOLS and press ENT. Press EXIT twice. Any significant return in the water will now show up as a fish symbol.

Are you looking for the fish arches?
You won't get any arches unless the boat is moving and of course there are fish passing within the transducers signal. The shallower the water, the less area you are covering and less likely to get a fish return.

There is an OK guide to understanding what you see on the sonar screen at the link below. It if pretty technical but parts of it may help you out.

SOURCE: When we are deep water

Im not familiar with your particular unit but you should be using a low frequency transducer for water over 500'; something like a 50 kHz transducer or a dual frequency transducer like a 50/200kHz for detail with the high freq. but increased depth range on the lower frequency. As far as setting it to 250 ft, you should be able to use the range feature and adjust the maximum to 250'. typically the factory default is automatic so it will caonstantly adjust the range based on the maximum current depth.

The GPS component of my Lowrance Elite-5 Gold is malfunctioning about 50% of the time.

Hey Les, Since you have replace both the unit and transducer, you have eliminated/diagnosed most of your problem.. Its in the wiring... sometime when I am in full GPS mode I get erroneous depth readings..?? Have you tried a different GPS module (the "puck")?

I have an older Lowrance, Model X65, which until a few weeks ago worked as if still new. I hadn't used the boat for the past few weeks and when I did the Lowrance screen now has a large brown spot in...

You need to contact Lowrance about the repair.

My really older, but loved, unit failed and Lowrance pointed out that techonlogy is SERIOUSLY imporved, and convinced me to upgrade to a new unit. I disliked the price, but LOVE THE unit. TONS easier to read, even in bright sunlight, depth sounder portion much improved...twin beams really makes accurate reading, and fast readings (unlike older units).

• Security-related information

1. Forced Power ON mode (All models)

Even when the security (Mask key) is approved, resetting

the unit while holding the ATT and Preset 4 keys makes it

possible to turn the power ON for 30 minutes. After 30

minutes have elapsed, it is not possible to return to the

previous condition unless the unit is reset again.

2. Method of registration of the security code after EEPROM

(Tuner Unit ***'y) replacement

(Code security model)

(1) Enter the test mode. (See " 1. How to enter the test

mode")

(2) Press the CLK key to enter the security registration

mode.

(3) Enter the code using the Preset 1/2/3/4 keys.

Example: To enter "3510"

• Press the Preset 1 key 4 times.

• Press the Preset 2 key 6 times.

• Press the Preset 3 key twice.

• Press the Preset 4 key once.

(4) Press and hold the DISP key for 3 seconds until

"APPROVED" is displayed.

(5) Exit from the test mode. (See " 2. How to exit from the

test mode")

(Note) All Clear is not applicable to the security code of

this model.

3. Simplified method of clearing the security code (K Type

only)

(1) While the code entry is requested, press and hold the

VOL UP key for 3 seconds while holding the DISP

key pressed. (This should turn "----" off.)

(2) Enter "KCAR" from the remote. (Same way as the 00

model)

Press the 5 key on the remote twice, then press the

Track Up key. (This enters "K".)

Press the 2 key on the remote 3 times, then press the

Track Up key. (This enters "C".)

Press the 2 key on the remote once, then press the

Track Up key. (This enters "A".)

Press the 7 key on the remote twice, then press the

Track Up key. (This enters "R".)

(3) The security code is cleared and the unit enters the

ALL OFF mode.

(4) If you commit a mistake in the code entry, the unit

enters the code request mode again.

4. Method of writing the Mask key while the EEPROM is in

the initial status

(1) Enter the test mode. (See " 1. How to enter the test

mode")

(2) Press the CLK key to enter the Mask key registration

mode. "TRANSMIT1" should be displayed now. The

display at this time should show " < > " in place of " [ ]

".

(3) Point the Mask key remote toward the light sensor,

and press and hold its key for more than 0.5 second.

(4) When "TRANSMIT2" is displayed, press and hold the

key on the Mask key remote for more than 0.5 second

again. The first and second counter codes are not

compared at this time.

(5) When "APPROVED" is displayed, the write operation

is complete. Now the demonstration mode is initiated

and the test mode is terminated.

(Note) In the same way as previous models, if 30 minutes

have elapsed with no code written, an error occurs

and the power is turned OFF.

5. Method of initializing the Mask key

(How to reset the unit from the Mask key approved condition

to the factory condition)

(1) Enter the test mode. (See " 1. How to enter the test

mode")

(2) "TRANSMIT1" is displayed and the Mask key entry

request mode is initiated.

The display at this time should show " ∗ ∗ " in place of

" [ ] ".

(3) Press and hold the key on the Master key remote for

more than 3 seconds.

(4) When "TRANSMIT2" is displayed, press and hold the

key on the Master key remote for more than 3 seconds

again.

(5) When "APPROVED" is displayed, the Mask key is

cleared, the demonstration mode is initiated, the test

mode is terminated and the unit returns to the factory

condition.

6. Method of clearing all Mask key-related data

(1) Enter the test mode. (See " 1. How to enter the test

mode")

(2) Press the CLK key to enter the Mask key registration

mode. "TRANSMIT1" should be displayed now.

(3) Point the Master key remote toward the light sensor,

and press and hold its key for more than 3 seconds

(until the level display shows the full condition).

(4) When "TRANSMIT2" is displayed, hold the key on the

Mask key remote for more than 3 seconds again.

If "TRANSMIT1" is displayed in place of "TRANSMIT2",

restart the procedure from step (3).

(5) When "APPROVED" is displayed, all security data is

cleared and the unit returns to the condition before
Mask key writing with the EEPROM in the initial status

Hello- My 332c will not show speed. It worked before. The spinner wheel is not damaged.Speed just flashes 0.00 mph Thanks, Jeff

Try setting up the speed in the overlay data menu again:
1. Press MENU, arrow down to OVERLAY DATA and press ENT
2. Highlight the option for speed (WATER SPEED or GROUND SPEED) and press ENT
3. Highlight the REMOVE button and press ENT
4. Highlight (PRESS ENT TO ADD) and press ENT
5. Arrow down to SONAR DATA and press ENT
6. Arrow down to WATER SPEED and press ENT, a check will be displayed in the box
7. Press EXIT twice

If the speed is still flashing, the data is still invalid. Try resetting the unit completely:
1. Turn unit off
2. Press and hold the PAGES and POWER key until the "DO NOT RELY..." alarm appears
3. Set up the overlay data for speed again: 1. Press MENU, arrow down to OVERLAY DATA and press ENT; 2. Highlight (PRESS ENT TO ADD) and press ENT; 3. Arrow down to SONAR DATA and press ENT; 4. Arrow down to WATER SPEED and press ENT, a check will be displayed in the box; 5. Press EXIT twice

If the speed is still flashing, good chance the speed sensor is bad even though the wheel still spins. Install the latest LMS-332 updates from http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/Marine/Full-Size-SonarGPS-Chartplotter-Combos/LMS-332C/Downloads/LMS-332C-Software-Update/ and set up the overlay data again.

If it turns out that the speed sensor is bad, just use speed from the GPS. This can be set up from the overlay data menu as GROUND SPEED.

(note: the overlay data must be set up for each page individually. So if you set up speed to be displayed on the map screen, it will not also be set up on the sonar page)

Cannot access main menu or pages screen

I think I can help with your issue. I have an LMS 334c and have had a few issues in the past. Called the factory (this answer is not listed any where in your manual) and they instructed me to "Soft Re Boot" my unit and it would put everything back to factory settings. Try this anytime it does not respond for whatever reason.

Turn the unit off.

At the same time press the Pages and Power button. Hold both down until you see the square box come up in the screen. You should have your factory settings again. May need to try a few times.
Lowrance said it works just like a computer, ever now and then it just tries to disect to much information at one time and hangs up.
Good luck. James Cantwell
