I have a Whirlpool Ler5636eq3. It started squealing the other night. Last night after load of wash finished I put a new load in and pushed the start button. It will not start or turn. It just makes a motor noise and a burning smell. The Blets are secure. Any ideas?

My dryer problem is similar to Jessie_lee_8's. When I press the start button, there is a loud buzzing noise and it sounds like the motor will not engage. Prior to this happening, the dryer was making sort of an intermitant squealing/squeaking noise and only did this for a day or two before progressing to the stage it's in now. Haven't noticed a burning smell, however. My dryer problem is similar to Jessie_lee_8's. When I press the start button, there is a loud buzzing noise and it sounds like the motor will not engage. IT SOUNDS AS THOUGH YOUR MOTOR HAS LOCKED UP AND FAILED. THE BURNING SMELL IS THE VARNISH FROM THE WINDINGS OF THE MOTOR. REPLACE THE MOTOR. THEY CAN BE HAD FOR AROUND EIGHTY DOLLARS

It is a Gas Dryer, so it can only be worked on by a qualified gas service engineer. Easy to fix Miss Carroll, it is a slipping belt or a dry drum bearing.
Tell them make and model and that it is squealing. They should bring the parts to fix in one visit.
The recommended power cord is a 30 amp 3- or 4- wire cable. A 50 A cord could cause a problem by allowing a surge to the dryer motor and damage the dryer or start a fire. There are 30A to 50A adapters (see RV and boat supply vendors). The installation instructions for the LER5636EQ3 are available here: https://www.whirlpool.com/digitalassets/MLPDF/Installation%20Instructions%20-%203397618.pdf . See page 5 of the PDF.
Note: the 50A outlet has a 50A circuit breaker protecting it. If you swap the outlet to a 30A outlet, you will also need to replace the breaker with a 30A one.
Your problem could be a bad bearing...The drum rides in a bearing at the rear middle of unit..Its basically a plastic insert...When the dryer is first started the bearing will squeal until the plastic warms up..Normally you will hear the squeal at the back middle of dryer...Your problem may also be the belt tensioner...Again a plastic wheel with a metal bearing inside...Normally this squeal will be from start to finish..
check and see if belt is broke you have to lift the top and then remove the front with two screws on each side on the inside pull out and up. after you lift the top you will see the tub and a belt should be on it if so lift up on the belt it should be snug if it comes off in your hand bingo there is your culprit remove front and install new belt
