Question about Mitsubishi WS-65869 65" Rear Projection Television

Is this a calibration, convergence, or lens focusing issue?

I have a Mitsubishi WS65819 purchased in 2001 that started having the convergence bowtie problem about two months ago. With the help of this message board and MCM Electronics, I fixed it with no issues this last weekend. Thanks a million. One question, before I performed the IC replacement, I noticed that the red horizontal line on the basic X convergence screen was elongated. I assumed this was due to the bad ICs. Unfortunately, after the set warms up a minute or two, the red convergence shifts. On the basic red convergence screen you see the hotizontal line become longer and shift to the right. Is this a calibration, convergence, or lens focusing issue? I have already had a repair guy visit and charge me $100. He suggested that the ICs I used in the repair were defective. I replaced the ICs again, but unfortunately it did not solve the problem.

I did not change the ground resistors. Do I need the service manual to identify them or are they easily idetified?

Convergence, my screen was also bowtied. The repairman replaced the IC's and when it wasn't any better, he told me it would be another 700-800 to repair at the shop and would take them 2 months.

I paid him the 95.00 for the visit and after reading this post feel that he just didn't know how to fix the problem onsite.

I have a Mitsubishi WS-55809 projection TV. The convergence will not ajust using the user controls and the picture looks bowl shaped in every format.

you will need to install a convergence repair kit for your model. You can get the repair kit called the " WT46807, WS55807, WS65857,WS65907, WS73907 WT46809, WS55809, WS55819, WS65809 and WS65819 Convergence repair kit " which has the parts and the CD with instrucions. Its available at the following link

The individual lens have a lug nut that when loosened allows the lens to be turned-----cover red and blue lens and call up the convergence grid---from the rear adjust that lens until the green lines are in good focus(can also do the red in and the blue if needed)

You will get no more advantage as the manual focus controls on the splitter block have very limited range.

when done carefully tighten the wing nuts on the lens back tight.

Blurry picture

By focus is the set looking 3d etc--called a convergence issue---if so go into the menu with the Mitsubishi remote and see if it will adjust---if off and will not adjust in some area of the screen the set needs the convergence chips replaced.

If convergence is good and not the issue describe the problem a bit more----these sets have 3 picture tubes with lens---from rear of set (safest way) the lens can be cleaned with a lens cloth---dust on them will make the picture look darker and dull looking and usually is done one time a year--do not try to adjust anything until you try this first.

Mitsubishi Convergence issue

If the screen is out of focus you probably need to adjust the focus on the focus block it is usually located behind the front grill, there are 6 adjustment screws on this block, leave the screen controls along just adjust the red, green, and blue focus screws. When converging a set everything is converged to the green, the blue and red are suppose to come to the green.

Sorry, I just saw this post.
I hope this helps.

Yes there is one more step. You should call the technician out and have them set up the Magic Focus adjustments. I have serviced these televisions for years and I have made this mistake and had to return to fix it. You should not have to pay for a rework. The technician should have done the complete job the first time.

I hope this helps
and good luck.

Convergance Mitsubishi ws65819

That series of model uses the STK 393-110, whose legs don't just go intermittent - cold solder joints - on the board ends, they also go intermittent - and cold solder - on the chip ends! All other Mit HDreadys have their ICs go cold solder on the board ends when the convergence starts to go intermittent, and you can usually save the part if you get to it in time, and don't run it too long in its bad condition. He did try that for you rather than charge you for a replacement part, so he's to be commended for that, at least.

Not so for the 393-110. That IC gives way at the ends up above, IN the IC, and it's really tough to get in there and resolder all of them. Really not worth the effort when it's already aged as much as it has once this starts to happen. Like a throwout bearing on a car's tranny, it's best to have the IC replaced with a brand new one and thus upgraded and start over, once you've done all the labor it takes to get that far. Convergence ICs work very hard in there, and like a car's thermostat, if either one goes out you just replace it and keep going.

So tell him he'll need to bring that IC with him this time, and you're willing to pay for the additional parts cost. It's definitely worth it on that set, that's a dynamite set!
