I have a Dell Precision M60 laptop. The other day the screen just went blank and the computer crashed. I was able to reboot after a minute or so into setup but the screen started showing grey, blank, vertical lines, then black and white dots and finally nothing at all at which time the computer appeared to have copletely crashed. The screen is fine for it has occasionally worked for a brief period before the line appear. What part could be causing the problem? Any ideas?
Thanks. Problem is the same with external monitor. If I could identify the specific chip on the Dell Precision M60 MoBo, an electronics technician friend of mine is equipped to heat the part and reset it on the board (if it is a problem of it becoming loose). We tried heating and resetting the chipsets and it worked fine for more than 15 minutes, even booting into windows XP Pro perfectly but then after we reassembled the computer the problem returned. We now do not know if we hit on the broblem or what.Thanks. Problem is the same with external monitor. There are few of these Dell Precision M60 systems here in Colombia so I doubt it unless I can find a cheap one on the internet. Any other tests I should do or parts that could be causing this problem? If I have time I will be disassembling the computer again tomorrow and trying again but I am intrigued because I did get it to work fine once before the reassembly. Was it a fluke? Did I touch something that was loose and then loosen it again when I reassembled? It is definetely a hardware problem. Do you have any suggestions where else I might post this problem and get prompt assistance like I got from you? it sounds like your display might have gone out on your motherboard. Can you try to hook up an external monitor. And after it reboots try to select display modes Fn + F4?? Or something along those lines. It will be in the Function keys row and have a pic. of two little monitors on it or something similar. If no display on the external monitor then chances are you will have to buy a new system or at least a new motherboard, which is no easy task to repair. But if you let me know the brand of computer you are running I might be able to find a website that could give you some directions

Sounds like you may have "hit the problem" But to me sounds like the chip itself is no good anymore. Any chance of getting a chip off another board and replacing it?
might want to check the solder leads or contacts(whatever they are called) the little metal things on the bottom of the board to ensure they are not touching anything metal causing them to short or ground out. Also make sure the ribbon to the LCD on the laptop is locked into the plug on the mobo. As for software I'm not sure you could always try loading the drivers again but this definitely sounds like a hardware issue.

try to figure out what kind of graphics card you have and google it. Then look through the replies and start reading the forums. This is usually how i research anything i need. Other than that you can try to look at the top experts in this category and see if they have any more recommendations

You can find a bluetooth trigger button in your laptop it will be symboled like this ))).((( or else with your laptop kit they will be providing you a pen drive (bluetooth dongle)shaped device using that you can transfer the datas. or else you can install a bluetooth dongle device with your laptop to transfer datas.
It's probably the wrong screen, cable ,or inverter; in spite of what the repair shop tells you .
Also, sometimes the cable gets pinched if not installed carefully, or the cable connector may need to be re-seated.
Is your laptop a Dell Precision M60 ? I'll see which screen it's supposed to have.
Three finger salute aka hold down CTRL and ALT and then press the Delete key. That will either bring up task manager where you can select reboot or it will just reboot if you press it again (depends on os version)
Hold down the power button.
Depending on your model there may also be a reboot button that you can poke. It is usualy hidden on the bottom somewhere.
Without battery connected it wont work. Better buy a new batterry connect it and plug it for charging for 8Hrs conitnuosly without switching on the laptop.
if it doesnt work, try to call dell. they have a grace period of 5-10 days from expiration date of warranty. if still no luck, call spareparts 800-3573355. purchase the lcd from there and install it yourself using the manual i gave.
