Bosch Dishwasher classixx blows fuse when turned on

Hi, I have inherited a Bosch dishwasher madel no sgs43a52. It is not working andwhen I switch it on it blows the RCD in the house fuse box. I cant find any repair manual or even a user manual for this machine. It is only about 4 years old and has had very light use, being in a holiday home all its life. Any ideas? Even a description of how to open it up to check the motor connections and heating element would help. Thanks for your time Thinking Hard...

I have just taken the top and right side panel off the machine, and find the pump has a fair amount of rust around it and the bottom of the plastic floor panel is covered with what appears to be salt crystals. It is damp/wet.
I am wondering now if the pump is leaking. If the water is running through the pump and taking the salt from inside the dish washer with it, maybe this is the problem.
Is this a likely cause? Can I just hose out the bottom of the machine? (I might even take it outside first...) How easy is it to replace the pump.
    Any other thoughts???

Thanks Crytech, Do I need to strip the machine in to pieces to get access to these parts? I have not removed the left hand panel yet, but that should be straight forward enough. What then tho...
Does the softener have a tank, Is that going to come off easily?
    Thanks for your help.

Thanks for that. Took it out side, turned on its side, took off hoses, un screwed, loosened, shook, pulled, pushed slipped, scratched hand, swore, jumped about a bit, pushed again, lifted, and removed plastic bongos. (cracked before i started application of common sense).

Will be reversing the order of events when the replacement bongo's arrive.

Strange thing, the guy at the parts place didnt recognise the tech term for the softener unit. Said they were a appliance parts store, not anything to do with MUSIC... Dont know what he's on about...

Thanks for the advice, Got me out of a hole :-)

No don't hose it out. That will only make things worse. There are a good number of reasons why it may be blowing the breaker. You will need to meter out the different parts to check for a short. My guess from you description is that the softner unit has broken / leaked and gone into the main pump. You will need to replace both if thats the case.

The softner unit is the plastic bongo's looking tub under the machine and the neck of one side protrudes into the bottom of the machine itself - this is where you put the salt into. The other half contains a browny / orange / yellow crystals ( we call resin) water pases through this & the calcium is removed from the water(softening), the salt (or salt water) the machine uses to clean the calcium resin crystals for the next time it fills. The softner will be held into position with a locking nut around the neck of where you put the salt in and perhabs with a bracket underneath. Just remove all hoses to the softner unit & it should come out pretty easy. Common sense with get you through this one!

The machine is best serviced from the bottom, so lie the machine down.

    Good luck & enjoy!!!

Bosch diswasher, model Sms68m02AU trips circuit breaker

rcd units trip from the milliamps that are in a short
it trips the rcd to prevent electrocution and acts in nano seconds besides being a circuit breaker for excessive current
the trip can be from moisture allowing a current leakage to ground or some other simple operation
I suggest that you get in a qualified electrician / bosch service technician to find the reason for the problem rcd

Mains RCD blows after a few minutes of operation

You have a short inside the control unit. When it opens the power protection disengages the unit. It is a warning to get it replaced or face the possibility of a house fire.

Appears the main box RCD is just as fast as the secondary RCD and it sensed the same fault that triggered the outside unit and it didn't wait around to see if that outside unit did the job.

I have a Bosch Classixx slimline dishwasher. I completes most of the cylcle but trips out the electricsnear the end of the cycle - probably the drying cycle - any ideas Garry

Hello Garry,

I suspect the element in the water heater is either burning out or shorting to earth. If it's burning out, the increased resistance will cause an overload and trip the breaker or blow the fuse for that circuit. If it's shorting to earth, it may trip both the breaker and the RCD in your fuse box / consumer unit.

Next time it happens, check whether the RCD switch (assuming you have one) is in the 'OFF' position. Most breaker boxes will be fitted with an RCD which protects many, or all, of the individual circuits. It's easily identified by the presence of a 'TEST' button.

That's only going to be a clue to the likely cause of the fault though. You really need to do some testing of the element with an ammeter and/or multi-meter, if you have one. I can provide instructions for testing if you have the equipment and inclination.

Unfortunately, if it is the water heater, the cost of a replacement is about £100 for the part alone, for the SGS43C12. Water heaters for most other Bosch models are roughly the same price and some of the older models can be £130+. If you need to get someone in to fit it, you could be looking at a total bill of between £150-200. Considering the age of the SGS43C12 / Classixx, it may be time to consider replacing the dishwasher.

Obviously, I'm assuming it's the water heater as this is the most likely cause, but there are other possible faults. If you need any instructions on testing, etc, please confirm the correct model number as the SGS43C12 isn't a slimline model.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Regards,
BElectric

Hello. My Bosch dishwasher just isn't turning on again. It was working fine and now I cant get anything to turn on. Thank you

Make sure you have power to the machine. Plug in something you know works into the same power point as the dishwasher. If it works, then you will know the dishwasher has failed. If it doesnt, then check your meter box, switch, RCD etc.

Faulty Diplomat Dishwasher - tripping mains fuse

Hello,

My dishwasher a diplomat 12 program (hja8640) was doing exactly the same where every now and again when turned on at the plug it would trip. After engineers coming out several times and failing to fix it, they condemed it. New one was supplied, however did exactly the same thing. The electrician came back, checked the RCD power breaker and this was fine. It was then discovered that some dishwashers and washing machines send out a lot of earth leakage, combine this with other appliances on in the house can be enough to trip.

Soloution. The electrician removed the kitchen circut from the RCD breaker and intalled another breaker RCD just for the kitcehn loop, this therefore means that the kitchen has a seperate trip from the rest of the house, and touch wood, has solved the problem. This mind you has taken about three months to work out so i hope it saves you some time.

Always use a fully qualified electrician though.

Thanks.
