Yes I see your problem!
1)Did You Drop the ps2 at all?
2)Maybe Your using the wrong disk...(like old ps1 or copied ps2 games)
3)Maybe it just stopped working...if You got it recently go get it exchanged or fixed(check the warranty)...
4)if it doesnt turn on then its most likely broken or messed up...
5)if the game doesnt work it may be scratched or need to be cleaned
6)clean the ps2!get a computer/game console sprayer...
7)they also have cd cleaning devices that get rid of the scratches (not too big or long though)
You cannot connect a usb hardrive or anything for that matter unless you "soft mod" the ps2 you need a pro action repaly and the usb stick that comes with it and you need to put certain installtion files on the stick with your computer.
It could be the power cord, but it could also be the connection where the cable connects to the system. The cheapest fix would be to try a new power cord. If it's the slim PS2 then it's only about a $15 fix. If it's the large older PS2, then it's more like a $5 fix for a cord.
blingbdog, do you have the slim or the old large system? Also, let me know if the warranty is still valid (have you had the console for more than 1 year).
Ouch you got good news and bad.. Bad first. Your PS2 will not work without that ........ But The Good news im sure you might know somebody that has a junk ps2 if you can get your hands on it there is your fix... Sadly Sony wont send you one . try turning the cable around and useing the good end.. ill shoot you a vid that might help
ps2 can play dvds but xbox needs a store bought xbox dvd remote to play dvds the ps2 slim and the ps2 normal have a lot in common so thwere is not much difference, but the slim has a fliptop lid and the fat ps2 has a open and shut slide drive. If I were you I would get the slim because it is the only one you can get brand new nowadays. The xbox may have halo 1 and 2 but sometimes there are freezes on certain xboxes.
On some models, the Ethernet comes from a PC board searate from the Motherboard. Now you can get a motherboard replaced for under $60. Check out the playstationclinic. Nothing you can really do if the Ethernet Chip is blasted.
You should make sure your cables work on a different PS2. You could have a bad connection somewhere in the cable. If you can you should see if you can get sound out of the optical audio port on the PS2.
you probably have a loose connection in there. If you are comfortable with it, open it up and check for a loose connection. If you find it you can probably fix it yourself. If you aren't comfortable with it I'm sure you have a friend that is willing.
