Question about Maytag MAT12CS Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Empty washing machine still unbalanced

My Maytag top load coin-op washing machine "unbalanced" light is on- even with no clothing within. I have spun the drum and turned the internal timer to "run" a load through. Once that "load" is done and I push the coin-filled coin tray in, I get the "unbalanced" light and no action (unless I intervene again with the timer). Any advice? Thanks!

Interestingly enough I had tried rocking the machine a bit last night (before I got this answer) and when I went to try rocking again this AM the machine had somehow self-corrected- delayed response to my rocking last night? I'll never know, but I think your solution is the right one :) Thanks

Machine was bouncing about and I turned it off, re balanced it then set it off again and it was fine. I have used it again today and it is leaking lots from underneath

Washer shakes violently!

Do you not know that unbalanced dry clotrhes become super unbalanced wet clothes! If you put too little clothing in the front loader, the weight will be in one place on the high speed turning drum. If you put in too much, the load will shift to a few locations but still be out of balance. Rather than "dance" the Chubby Checker way with your machine, try stopping it when it does "the dance" and redistribute the clothing around the drum!

First thing I would do is replace the belt as the old one may have streched

Whirlpool cabrio model WTW7340XWO ties cloths into a knot when spinning

You buy another top load high efficiency machine and load the clothes in same manner, you will get same result. No matter whether it is whirlpool or samsung or LG.

If you buy Maytag, Amana, KitchenAid, JennAir, Roper, Inglis and even sometime Kenmore. You will be buying the same Whirlpool Corporation machine with a different face plate.

hey listen your machine drum gone

During the spin cycle the drum becomes unbalanced and thumps.

I assume that your saying this happens all the time and not just because you have too many clothes on one side of your washer. First make sure your washing machine is level and there is no problem with the feet. If that checks out take the cabinet off the washer and check the tub hold down springs/straps and make sure they are still attached....they can come loose or break. Hope this helps!

Maytag washer won't shift to rapid spin dry (only slow back & forth)

Hi Jim, you issue could be caused by a couple either one of a of the following,
1) Draining problem, cant empty the water from the machine within the prescribed time limit - preventing the spin programme to commence. check pump filter is clear and waste water is pumping from the end of the waste hose, the hose itself could be blocked with limescale and detergent residue.
2) Unbalanced load, most machines wont spin 1 item, its a safety thing, if a machine spins with one heavy item it puts the drum out of balance resulting in excessive drum movement possibly damaging the inside of the machine and put indue stress on the bearings. Try putting it on a spin cycle with no clothes in

Unbalanced load detection can also be caused by a faulty motor tacho, this usaually positioned at the rear of the motor, this sends an electrical signal to the programmer telling when it is 'Safe' to spin. There also the posibility that the programmer is not reading the tacho signal or misinterpriting it.

Maytag coin-op top load wont spin, motor runs, belt burns.

it not a belt, there is a $20 plastic and rubber coupling between the motor and the transmission that has broken.  It needs replacing.

Leep, open the hatch that the timer sits under. You will see the timer and actuator that the coin tray pushes to start the wash cycle. You can rotate this cam clockwise until it gets to it's home position, ususally right around the 12:00 position. Good luck
