I also have had a problme with the Samsung. When I turn the set on, the picture stays black, the sound comes on, and first the "lamp" light flashes on and off. This progresses to all three - "lamp, Standby, and Timer" flashing. I have tried to replace the lamp with no change. I then purchased a new ballst which also was easy to change out. I still have the same problem. I still don't feel that I am any closer to having a working TV. HELP!
Skippy is right, you should check the color wheel. There are only two moving parts in the set and the color wheel is one of them. If you listen closely to the TV you may hear a high pitched whirr or whine. If so, you've got a bad color wheel motor. If you are mechanically inclined, take the back off and remove the lamp vent. Take off the screws and cables holding the optical block tray and slide the tray out. The lamp points directly at the color wheel. There is a metal heat sink held in place by two silver screws over the compartment infront of the lamp. Using latex gloves, remove those and the whole color wheel assembly will come out. Of course this process isn't as simple as I've stated it but with some common sense you'll be fine. When replacing the wheel pay attention to the model number. Some of these sets use a bearing setup and others an air cushion one. Make sure you order the right part. If you do order the wrong one, not all is lost, you can (with a jumper) modify it to work. Make sure your gloves are clean and re-install the color wheel, and reverse your dismantle. Good luck!

by the way, I see a lot of broken Samsungs, don't feel singled out. Of all the tv's I've repaired over the years, samsung seems to be the brand I constantly have in my shop. But it is also the most service friendly. They can be fixed easily. Keep in mind that almost all brands of TV's use philips and samsung parts, boards, etc. So changing brands may not be your ultimate solution. Sony on the other hand is the brand I see the least. But when they die, they are DEAD. Fixing sony is often a nightmare. Moral of the story, 6 of one half dozen of the other. Pick your battle wisely.

I am having a problem with my 4663. When I power on the TV, the fan comes on, but I get no picture. I have to power on the TV several times to finally get it to show a picture (takes 20 or more minutes). I have noticed a blue colored electrical short under the projection lamp case on the circuit board, and you can hear the electric arcing when I see the glow. Not a big short where it could melt something, but one nonetheless. The short will last about 2 to 3 seconds and then go away. Any assistance would be appreciated.
I have the same problem in my Samsung HLP 4663, it is nightmare, I told myself that never buy any Samsung TV again.
I changed the bulb. It worked fine then shut off. I get all different combos of flashing lights. I took the panel off and put a fan back there. It work fine for about 6 hours. The next it powered up fine but only worked for 10 minutes.
I was told that if the picture comes on nice and bright for merely a fews seconds it's not the lamp or ballast.
My color wheel is not making noise and the picture seems to be fine.
When I go through the steps to get data on usage it never works.
1. menu
2. 1-8-2
3. power
this will not work
I'm getting ready to throw a brick right through this mother scratcher
I have the same problem on my HLP5063W and I have not replaced anything yet. Did anyone ever correct this type issue?
Sound, no picture, lamp LED blinks for 30 sec and then TV reboots. This happens 3 times and then all three LEDs blink, which apparently indicate a defective lamp. However, I'm not so convinced. Prior to last night, the lamp was working intermittently. A couple days ago, I removed the lamp housing and examined the lamp....it looks fine.
I have the exact same problem with my Samsung...by the way this is the second issue in 3 years. I had to have the color wheel replaced about 18 months ago. I did all the usual stuff like change the bulb and clean the fan, but that did not fix the problem. I bought the extended warranty so I called and they came out. They could not fix the problem on site (even though I pay for that) and had to take it to their shop. Their diagnosis is that I need a new light engine. The warranty company has to approve such a repair and I am told that will take about a week and then another week to get the part and make the repair....so about 18 days from their original visit to my house to get my working TV back. This is the last Samsung product that I will buy. The picture is GREAT when the TV works but it has been a major pain since I bought it. I am on my third bulb, replaced the color wheel, and now the light engine...never again with DLP and especially Samsung DLP.
I have exactly the same problem for about over a year, now my TV HL-P4663W died completely. No more SamSung. SamSung should repair for all buyers, this is not one or two TV, it looks like this is a serious defected model from manufacture. My brother bought a Sony TV, the color went wrong, Sony repair for FREE! Why don't anybody submits an request, with everybody signs on this, to SamSung to see what can they do for us?
I have the HL-P4663W and replaced the color wheel. I removed the jumper and it worded great with a good picture. Three days later it shuts off...three lights blinking and now it will not ture on. I replaced the lamp, still no good....
Can anybody help?
