Over the last month my games have slowly stopped working. I should point out that the main games that don't play are the "new" games. It started with Halo 3 then Halo 2 (not a new game but it's in that order), followed by Rock Band 2, Rock Band 1, PGR 4.
The only game I can partly play is COD 4 which after 15 to 20 minutes gives an unreadable error.
My xbox already has an expired warranty so I really don't want to shell out 90+ dollars to get it repaired.
I've tried the troubleshooting tips on microsoft's website. I'm hoping that someone has a solution for this.

Step 1
Form your Xbox 360 you need to be connected to the Internet by a straight LAN line or wirelessly. You can test you connection by going to the setting screen on your Xbox 360.
Step 2
Once connected to the Internet for your Xbox 360 go to your main account screen and find the tab that says "Join Xbox LIVE" click on that link then follow the simple instructions that the Xbox LIVE will provide. At this point you should have a name in mind for your gamer tag.
Step 3
Xbox 360 LIVE has several different options available for memberships. They are a monthly, 3-month and 12-month membership accounts. I would recommend a simple one month account if you just wanted to check out the features offered on XBOX 360 LIVE. If your an avid gamer and love to play games online with friends, the 12-month Gold membership is the way to go.
Step 4
Once you've completed the process of joining Xbox 360 LIVE, they will send you a confirmation email confirming your membership. Now you can log on to Xbox 360 LIVE and start doing this like customizing your avatar and playing online multi-player games.
find out which dvd drive you have, hitachi, samsung, phillips, etc...then buy a 20 dollar replacement same brand, switch the little green board from yours to the new one, new drive no errors...hope it helps...
Possibly you tilted or moved the Xbox when a game was running, this will scratch the game beyond repair, or maybe you played the games so long that they were laserburnt, meaning they were burnt from the laser inside of the Xbox that reads it, making they sometimes unplayable, you could try taking the games back to the store and returning them for a new one.
Your laser could be bad, that is my idea for the situation. Your laser probably loads to a certain point and then just stops for some reason. You can try adjusting the potentiometers up 10 percent if your technologically advanced or try and replace the whole laser/drive.
Have you tried ejecting the disc but not quitting out the game, wiping
the disc and then putting it back in, it should say something like
please insert disc, it may work, it does on the ps3
