Solution 1 & 2# Yes the drivers do work for Windows Vista however they dont solve the problem with the scanner software.
I work in the IT Industry and currently scouring the internet to find a solution for this problem. Recently I upgraded from Windows Xp Professional (x86) to Windows Vista Business (x86)
Under WIN XP PRO the printer and all its functions worked correctly, As for the printer trying to turn on, do you have the FAX feature turned on / connected to the phone line. If you disconnect this cable you should find it will stop trying to turn on.
This is caused by it listning to the line and every now and then activating.
Current Problem that I still have. Upon upgrading to Vista I have installed the software CD and downloaded the drivers from Lexmark but when using the all in 1 suit and selecting scanner, it asks for the resolution and then when I click print.
The hourglass (Or Vista Orb circle) appears for a while and then stops
The additional window that normally shows as it is scanning does not appear
If I manually select Scan from the printer it states Downloading Application List and locks that start buttons.
Im contemplating using Windows Fax Viewer of Microsoft word to over ride Laxmarks software or (Bypass it more like) but I need it to be at least 300DPI Solution 3# Read the header link it does show X5470 All-In-One InkJet Printer

the X5470 is compatable with vista however you may need to go to the lexmark website and download the drivers for your Vista OS.
Now as for the "Ghost in the Machine" as its called this is simply the printer checking the ink levels in the machine.
You may have a low cart, if not then AFTER you get your vista drivers updated a simple off and on power button push will remedy this.
This also happens after your home has had an abrupt power shutoff, either by mother nature or man made.
Once again a simple power button push will remedy this.
First off a ton of printers are not working with vista yer. Many manufactures are refusing to rebuild drivers for outdated printers since they will be losing money. If this is a newer printer more then likely its compatible but the drivers included with the printer where shipped before vista came out.
So... You will have to go to the printers manufacture website , more then likely their support section and look for the drivers and/or software for that model of printer.
Since you didn't provide the printer name and model number there isn't much else advice I can give at this point.
Note for above solution: Make sure you uninstall everything for that printer/scanner before reinstalling the new software.Note for above solution: Make sure you uninstall everything for that printer/scanner before reinstalling the new software.

sometimes there are compatibility issues with windows vista. Uninstall all other exisitng drivers of printers. Install the downloaded driver again and the software too. If it doesnt work then i think you must get it back with xp.
Can you give complete details please? What do you mean by not working? No lights? Printer does not power on? Any error messages? Exact make and model of printer..
The bad news first... Vista hates and will not drive cannon products.
The other bad news... Cannon went out of the printer business and never wrote a vista driver.
Now some more bad news... vista is not really as fully developed as the XP os and don't really know if it will ever be, it's pretty, but it's one problem after another.
The solution is either buy new printer/scanner or revert Ur system to an XP os. This is the sort if issue that windows went back to selling and supporting XP.
This is a very traveled road!
You can use the Lexmark z42 drivers that come with Vista to make it print but I doubt you could get it to scan. New MFP are a dime a dozen these days so it may be time to upgrade.
I assume the old computer was not Vista This site has the vista 32bit driver for Dell 922 AIO http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/8761/

I HAVE WINDOWS XP THE SCANNER WANT WORK
Have a new windows vista.
My printer is a Lexmark X2630. A friend with a Lexmark X2530 has no problems scanning photographs into the computer.
I can set up the 'wizard ' to scan but when I am asked to say what I want done & I reply, a red button saying 'stop' shows - & I can go no further.
This 'stop' prevents me from logging out & I have to restart the computer before I can continue.
In the meantime I will keep trying.

Read the header link it does show
