Question about KitchenAid 24 in. KUDI01TJ - Multiple Color Built-in Dishwasher
Dishes weren't getting clean. Some soap still in dispenser. Replaced fill value. Removed lower spray arm to check screen and impellar. Cleaned water inlet. Now, when I operate the machine; water fills, then heats. Then you hear a clicking sound, then a humming sound, like a motor wants to run. But nothing. No spray. Spray arms were working before I started the process. What did I do wrong?
Nothing by the sound of it. The humming may mean the main pump is stuck. If you are able, remove the pump & turn the impellor by hand (or screwdriver) just to make sure its free moving. Put it back into machine & see what you get. Could also mean that the capacitor on the main pump (if it is a capacitor start motor) has failed.

Hi
If you are noticing that the dishes are not clean, then there are a few things to check for. Check the soap powder if it's kept in a dry environment. Also try replacing the powder with something like a gel or liquid. Next thing to check for is the water pressure and fill valve. Check if the water is filling in and the spray arms are throwing the water with enough pressure. Try and listen to the sound if you hear a proper spraying action sound.
If it seems as a low water pressure then check the fill valve. Now, check if dishwasher is draining the water or not. While the dishwasher is working check whether the dishwasher is draining and there is not much left out water after the cycle is complete. Try cleaning the spray arm with a soft brush. The water temperature plays a major role in cleaning of dishes. The temp should be between 125 and 150 F for dishwasher to clean the dishes. Hope this helps...

turned out to be the pump. rusted and frozen up. not bad for a 5 1/2 year old kitchenaid product. of course the warrenty expired after 5 years.
