Ok firstly, you will need to get rid of Vista all together before you can Install XP, Use a partition program to do this, You can find a bunch just by typing partition software into google, Delete the main partition that windows is on, Then create a new partition, then format that partition as a Primary partition, I always use the NTFS format just for stability and it can handle larger files than a 32 Bit partition, when you have done that then you need to get a bootable windows xp and I think you have that if set up is starting but hanging. Just go through the windows setup and you will be done. BE AWARE that you will loose everything thats on the drive by doing this so backup what you want to keep before you start, Always an idea to get the XP drivers for the system as well, The Vista drivers WILL NOT work on an XP system
Hope that helps.

Take your hard drive out and place it in another computer as a slave and run a scan on your hard drive with the other computer.
If your hard drive is ide hard drive. I'm not sure about SATA drives.
If you could get it on a network with a working computer you could run a scan across the network.
I can do it for you if you are able to open your mail and go online and installl some software I recommend. This will enable me to remote control your computer.

Start machine press F8 repeatedly
If it lets you into Safe Mode then go to Programs, Accesories, System Tools, System Restore and try to roll the machine back a week or so
If that does not work you need to find a buddy with a copy of the software and reinstall providing your machine has the Windows sticker on the back or sides giving you the key code

It looks as though when deleting the OS you might have gotten jacked and the rom drivers were lost.

You may use the mouse and key board with PS2 plug (not USB). Most of the bios recognise PS2 configuration rather than USB. If it does not help, you can reset Bios by looking to your mainboard manual or looking the reset pins of Bios located on the main. It usually has a jumper on two pins and another one is open. Take off the jumper and put back to the open pin. Wait 2 min, then take off the jumper to original position. The bios was now clear off. If you could not do such complicated procedure, don't worry-take off the CMOS battery out for 2 min, then put back. It does the same clearance of Bios. Good luck
