Still have a white LCD Screen!

My Cyber-shot DSC-S40 LCD screen is still white. I tried looking for the Cyber shot logo that several people have recommended to try and correct the problem, but I can't see it. My camera is just over a year old. Any suggestions are much appreciated. thanks Ed

When I turn on my camera the lcd screen shows blank white and does not show any images.

  • Anonymous Mar 13, 2008

I have same problem: when I switch on, screen is blank white. Camera actually takes pictures OK, but you can't see them on the screen. I consulted the online manual at http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/2589978121.p... pages 72, 73 and 58. It looked as if it might have been that I disconnected the camera from the computer after downloading some pics, without doing the "disconnect hardware" routine as described on p 58, so I did that, several times, and in different combinations, like removing the usb before switching off the camera and visa versa, but all to no avail. The camera is still usable, but only if viewing throughthe eyepiece.

I contacted some sonycentres, but they only do a send-away service, which costs 45 pounds sterling non-refund deposit. Any suggestions???

Whenever i switch on my camera or when i click a pic or a video the screen remains white ...Any solutions to this?

  • Anonymous Apr 27, 2008

Same issue: LCD remains white - camera is just over 1 year old and has never been hooked up directly to a computer. I always remove the memory stick when the camera is "off" and put the memory stick in the computer port.

Camera will still take movies and still photos outdoors, still zooms and powers on and off just fine. The LCD just shows white.

Called Sony but they want $115 to fix it (a new non-sony camera is a cheaper option). One month out of warranty and Sony said too bad!

On the front of the camera, under the flash, two inches from the lens, hit this spot not hard just firm. Do it with the cam ON so you can see it work. Now if you want to fix it you will need to take it apart

I was on here to ask for help with my "white screen problem" as well, but thanks to Miccionne!! My problem is fixed! You're awesome!

That Sony should front up and realise how many of their cameras are obviously doing this and have a recall of them. You only have to google "Sony Cyber-shot screen goes white" to see how many are doing it!!!!

Sony Technical customer support is the place to go Is it only just over a year old. This is a hardware failure- connector loose or a firmware failure on the main board. There will not be a repair by a third party firm available to you. Sony- be nice to them - fib a little is it only just over a year you will possibly get a total replacement or a 'swap out' for a small fee.

Why does the screen go white

Many DSC-S40 users have had this problem and the great man Bob Allen has posted a fix (see link at end) that worked for me and many others. (NB I rapped mine twice according to his instructions and it now works fine). If Bob's 'fix' doesn't work there is another fix at the end of this link (Page 23 when I last looked) that I haven't tried.

Quick update:

I fixed the camera myself as follows:

1. Hold camera firmly in left hand
2. Smartly rap front of camera with knuckles of right hand on the "Cyber-shot" logo.

It worked, now the LCD is working again for free.

Guess I don't need to pay Sony $111.00 for repair service.

Sony DSC S40 screen turnes WHITE in few seconds.

Try pressing hard just under the bottom right hand corner of the screen with your thumb (and second or third finger on the top). Squeeze hard! it works every time for my camera. Good luck.
