You read the manual and follow the instructions. That's how you hook it up.

Please don't ask such lazy questions when the manual is readily available via a Google search.

the switch should beep if you switch between channels or Ports.

It seems that you might want to download the manual and try to reset the unit. If this doesn't work call their support. Avocent has free support as far as I know.

how did you connect from the switch to the server?

Did you reboot your server?

Turn off your IDLE settings and don't let the server go into IDLE.

Check that and see if that makes a difference.

Make sure you use the correct IQ modules for that Model of Switch.


If the the IQ module is a PS2 module you migth want to reboot the server.

If you have PS2 targets you have to reboot the Servers, if jnot it want receive a signal.


Are you using Avocent cables?

What resolution are you using? And if you place the Avocent KVM cable to a different port, do you get a signal? If you use a Known good cable do you get a KVM session with good video?

To recover the ACS 6000 console server root password:

1. Connect directly to the console server's CONSOLE port.

2. Turn the console server off, then on again.

3. Press the Spacebar to access the uboot prompt.

4. Type hw_boot single and press Enter.

5. The console server will boot into single-user mode. Type passwd and press Enter.

6. Enter the new password and confirm.
7. Type reboot and let the console server boot normally
