Micowave will start and run for about 30 seconds and then just quit. It then is completely inoperative for a period of time,the display does not even light up.It is as if there is no power. After a period of time it becomes functional again.
Microwaves should only be worked on by fully qualified repair people and my advice to you would be to bring it to such a person,they can be dangerous to work on due to the presence of such high voltage, other than changing a light bulb any other repairs are out of limit.

If your timer is not working it is possible that it works on the memory default. Possible that the main board or the panel is faulty. To start with you can clean the boards and dry in case you notice these are soiled by insects. If not the board can be faulty and old models are difficult to source.
The light gets its power on a different circuit, The fuse that runs the micro/w may be blown out. this is a easy fix at home if you think, you can take out a few screws let me know. I will walke you through it. Ok DFD
