A friend of mine dropped my camera - much to my annoyance - and now the outer half of the lens is stuck. The camera still functions correctly for viewing pictures, but when in picture taking mode I get a black screen and it tells me to try turning it off and on again, and I do this only to get the same message again and again. I've only had the camera six months.
Hi, I'm Frewin. I took my hammer and banged it against he lense 3 times. And for some retarded reason, it broke. like, wtf. WHY DID IT BREAK???!!!!!
Im 11 and i just got a camera for x-mas and my lil sis dropped and it ddosent work so i tried a tip from here and it just mad eit worst
I have just had this problem, my 4 yo tried to use the camera and accidentally let the camera fall to the floor. I grabbed the lens with my hand and carefully tried to realign the lens. It worked and saved the camera. I hope it works for you.
The lens mechanism is wrecked. I guess a repair will cost nearly as much as new camera- get your 'friend' to treat you.
How do i fix my lens if its stuck? please respond i am in need of assistance..

I have a Cybershot DSC-W55 and the lens stopped opening, there is no message on the screen, just the normal icons
same problem .. this happened after dropping it 3 feet into grass !! so frustrating !!!
I am on my 2nd camera in this model DSC-W55 and the lens has stuck on both of them. The first one i owned for 6 months, and this one I have owned for 3 months. After reading numerous posts, I am convinced this camera is cheaply made and poor quality.
