Rca f20517wn has sound but there is more noise than sound. it sometimes has a problem with the picture drifting into horizontal lines. please help.

Hi,

Play a external device such as X box or DVD player. If the problem persists, this would confirm that this is an internal failure and needs repair. If the TV is less than 1 year old, you need to call the manufacturer to get it replace / repaired without any charges. However, if it is more than 1 year, then repair is the only option.If you have experience in repairing TV or electronics, revert and i would be able to provide few more inputs that would be helpful in repairing this. Unfortunately, this is not an easy fix as there are many things that could cause the issue you mentioned above.Most probably there are 2 issues here - either a power supply board or main board or both. Most often the symptoms you mentioned point towards main board, however without testing and diagnosing, it would be difficult to predict the exact problem.

If DVD player or X box console works fine, then the issue is either with cable or external factor. Then, we need to check all the connection details to find out the cause.

I doubt it is faulty, but it might be. Why have you got to buy it? why doesn't the technician get it if he says it is faulty?

In chennai free kalaignar tv sound not coming i changed sound ic an 17823a still sound not coming ples sen me the detail of this sub!!

you replaced the power amp ic before that you need investigate the condition of power ic and it's very simple when you terned on the tv set you can hear the small pop noice from the tv speaker means the power ic is good other way is just tuch the screw driver to sound if output stage you can hear the DERRR sound from the speaker
if it ok pls check the mute transistor

A bright line on the screen

A line running across the screen like that and then returning to a picture I would guess is the vertical IC has some poor solder joints. The vertical IC in that unit IC401 is an LA78041 a seven pin IC that is mounted to a metal heat sink. On the foil or under side of the board take a careful look at the pins of that IC and any that look suspicious carefully re-flow some solder over.. Careful not to keep your iron on the pin too long.. And if have to re-solder several take some time between them to allow the IC to cool so you don't damage it.. Good Luck Bill
