Question about Mitsumi 's CR-485GTE 54x32x54 CDRW (54XMIT) Burner

1 Answer

I need help for this one

I have a Mitsumi 's CR-485GTE 54x32x54 CDRW. Few days ago I had to format and reinstall everything on a hard disk. Then, I installed the CD-RW and on the hardware profile in windows XP is shown that everything works well, but in the real in my computer CD-RW is recognized, but not opening. It looks like it is attempting to read. I don't have any idea what is going on. The driver is ok, connection with the processor is ok, jumper is set properly. Can someone help me with some idea about what is going on?

Thanks for such a quick response. When I said "not opening" I didn't mean it as a hardware problem. When I insert CD it's just spining inside, like reading, but it is not opening or recognizing CD inside the CD rom.

    Hi again
    1. I formatted the hard disk and reinstall windows with mitsumi
    2. Yes CD-RW is recognized at the bios level
    3. Cables are already checked, because I have an old plane CD-ROM which is now used as a "first aid kit" on same set of cables and is working fine.
    4. This can be true, because I have added another hard disk and I was spinning the computer case. Let me try some CD cleaner and will get back to you.
Thanks for Your help and I haven't realized that I can rate your response at the end of our correspondence. By now, You already deserve A+ for trying to help me

Hi Maja, When you wrote "CD-RW is recognized, but not opening" are you referring to the tray not sliding? If you are, then it is possible that it is a hardware problem with your CDRW, specifically the tray loading mechanism. Pls refer to Should this be not the case, pls post again. Cheers

    Hello again Maja,
Understand you now that the CDRW won't read. A couple of questions pls:
    1. How did you "format and reinstall everything on a hard disk", did you use the Mitsumi or another CD Drive or another media?
    2. Since XP recognizes the CDRW, I presume that it is also recognized initially at the BIOS level as a CD-RW?
    3. When you wrote "I installed the CD-RW", did you mean pyhsically slide in the CD Drive into the casing, if yes you might have to check the IDE cable (or SATA cable) if it is properly sitted to the back connector of the CD Drive. Sometimes 1 or 2 pins may not align properly or simply not connected. Try pushing in the cable connector.
    4. It is also possible that something is lodged on top of the laser eye inside the CD Drive and you have to open it up and physically check/clean the lens.
Hope things turn out ok. Kind regards.

Can I install a CR-485GTE in my Dell GX260 Optiplex--any problems?

You shouldn't have any problem. The drive bay in the computer will take a standard size CD drive, and the one you list is nothing unusual. This document from Dell might be helpful.

Unfortunately, this type of virus is actually a virus that is a result of the company that actually has you going to the website to install the anti-virus software, nice huh?
So, there is really only one 100% foolproof way of eliminating this virus and that is by formatting your Hard Drive and reinstalling windows. Now, if you have extremely valuabe information on that drive that you can't afford to lose, then you can perform a small trick. You can install a new Hard Drive in the #1 position of the Seriel Cable or PCMI Position #1 if an older PC. If you are not familiar with the inside of your PC, you'll need to take your PC to a local PC Repair shop and ask them to install a new Hard Drive and OS and pull the data off the old hard drive and have it copied over to the new Hard Drive. Sometimes this may not be possible, but it can't hurt to try. Then the infected drive can be formatted and you'll have 2 drives in your PC, your old one being just a great back up spare drive.
If you don't have such valuable data on the drive, then the process is much simpler. Just reinstall your Windows OS (Windows 7, Vista, XP) whatever version of Windows Software you have. You will need the original Windows OS installation disk if it is an OEM version of Windows, or go and purchase a Full version of Windows and install from the CD.
When you go to install Windows, you will be asked if you wish to format disk prior to installing, make sure you select yes. Then you drive will be formatted, automatically removing the virus, then reinstalling windows on newly formatted Hard Disk.

Hope that helps

Why wont my mitsumi cr-48x9te cd burner not work

Install a the appropriate cd burner driver software in your
laptop so that it will function properly. A CD disc installer normally goes with the unit you purchase. You
may ask assistance from the store where you buy your
CD burner. Or you can download it from the internet.
Just send in your comments through the e-mail.

Mitsumi floppy drive read issue

Then unfortunately your drive is faulty. Have you tried spraying a little compressed air inside to shake around the dust? Otherwise if you are without warranty then you will either have to get a new drive, OR, start using USB thumbdrives which are a lot more economical these days.

It's not working...

The Opal has a reset hole on the back of the unit in which a toothpick (non metallic) can be inserted to reboot the player.
If this does not work, I suggest that you reformat the player by using the WindowsTM format command on the unit. To reformat the memory
  1. Right click on the device within the Explorer or My Computer window
  2. Select the format command (full format) to reformat the internal memory of the device.
  3. Reinstall the firmware from
