This TV is about 1 1/2 years old and worked just fine until a two week ago. The screen on the right side is distorted, about a 2 1/2" vertal space from top to bottom. It's like a color / contrast distortion. When the unit warms up,, say one hour plus the problem goes away.. But turn of the TV and it's back for another hour plus..
Do you have any suggustions?
Thanks Sue
PS: I have heard that you can place the unit in a freezer for one hour to bring back the screen quality???

I think Tekwiz is right - probably cracked solder joints. As the TV warms up, those joints expand, pressing the cracks together, and the problem goes away.
Finding them can be a bit tricky. Basically you're looking for small lumps of solder - silver stuff, on any of the boards in the unit. You might want to take a magnifying glass to them and see if any are cracked. If they are, applying a tiny drop of solder (make sure it's not too much, you don't want it to touch a nearby joint or circuit) to the cracked joint should fix the problem. If you're not familiar/comfortable with a soldering iron, you could replace entire boards for this, but at that point it might just be cheaper to take it to a repair shop.

A likely cause of this problem is a faulty solder job on one of the solder joints on the circuit board. There are no user serviceable parts in this set, so you must take it in to a qualified TV technician to have it repaired.

Hello,
please avoid placing the unit in a freezer, this can destroy the TV set.
Please call a tech in order to repair your TV. One of the possibble causes to this error can be the malfunction of some electrolytic capacitors at the power supply board.
Best regards,
Arpi

Having same problem. Smacking it or applying pressure often works. Extremely annoying (inconvenient) that a nearly $1000 machine breaks down very soon after one year ( how long the warranty is, of course)
Yes this thing start happening to my tv too about 4weeks ago and this goes away in about 15 minutes. TV is only 18 month old and I donot have extende warranty. Please post the solution if someone has got it repaired. Thanks
if it is only one side then your problem is most likely the t -con board if you can find one it is about 100 dollars try eithe partstore .com or shopjimmy.com
If you have a TV shop at all any more in your area, any tech working on them will know where to look. This is a pretty common problem although you are getting it too early.
Since it will require a certain type of instrument (capacitance meter) to verify the problem part, I don't want to go into detail concerning a 'do-it-yourself' repair since it may be a little difficult to order these in single quantities and a decent shop should have the right value on hand.
that sounds like your LCD controller, since the LCD screen is so big, they will "split" the screen into 2 smaller screens, otherwise it would be so outrageously expensive to have one big massive lcd controller. Your lcd controller is most likely a two-in-one card though, meaning that there are 2 controllers on one board. You'll more than likely need a new controller card for your tv.

This is due to vertical section failure. Change the vertical supply rectifier diode and supply filters. Then check zener diode leakage in pumpup circuit section. Also check any electrolytic capacitors leakage in vertical section. If it is old model tv change vertical height, vertical lenearity presets also. I hope given details useful to you.
