Question about Sylvania 6615LDF 15 in. EDTV-Ready LCD TV/DVD Combo
This TV is about 1 1/2 years old and worked just fine until a two week ago. The screen on the right side is distorted, about a 2 1/2" vertal space from top to bottom. It's like a color / contrast distortion. When the unit warms up,, say one hour plus the problem goes away.. But turn of the TV and it's back for another hour plus.. Do you have any suggustions? Thanks Sue PS: I have heard that you can place the unit in a freezer for one hour to bring back the screen quality???
I think Tekwiz is right - probably cracked solder joints. As the TV warms up, those joints expand, pressing the cracks together, and the problem goes away. Finding them can be a bit tricky. Basically you're looking for small lumps of solder - silver stuff, on any of the boards in the unit. You might want to take a magnifying glass to them and see if any are cracked. If they are, applying a tiny drop of solder (make sure it's not too much, you don't want it to touch a nearby joint or circuit) to the cracked joint should fix the problem. If you're not familiar/comfortable with a soldering iron, you could replace entire boards for this, but at that point it might just be cheaper to take it to a repair shop.

A likely cause of this problem is a faulty solder job on one of the solder joints on the circuit board. There are no user serviceable parts in this set, so you must take it in to a qualified TV technician to have it repaired.

Hello, please avoid placing the unit in a freezer, this can destroy the TV set. Please call a tech in order to repair your TV. One of the possibble causes to this error can be the malfunction of some electrolytic capacitors at the power supply board. Best regards, Arpi PS: if you need more info please advice.
