most GBX shredders have a magnetic "reed" type switch inside the shredder head that is actuated by a magnet on your door. have you recently lost the magnetic catch on your door? if you have lost it and have access to a strong magnet, you should be able to open door and move magnet around on front side of shredder head and see the light go out. if magnetic catch is on door, then perhaps your door is misaligned in such a way as to not energize the switch.
I clipped all the zip ties to free up the harness and physically inspected every connector till I found a connector that seemed rather loose and came off with minimal force. I then gathered the 3 wires and install a #18 wiring nut. the shredder is fully functional again.
you can do it yourself!! it take a little bit of time and patience. do it in an area that you can clean easily. take off and unplug the top, turn upside down, get a flat screw driver and start removing all the papers in the teeth area. from time to time you will need to put it bank and turn it on and make it go forward and reverse.
