HP LJ4 not printing correctly

I am running into a problem when printing Excel spreadsheets on this printer. As we print further down the spreadsheet, the data starts to get misaligned and eventually it runs into the gridlines. It appears that the data alignment starts to print lower and lower the further down the spreadsheet goes. But when i do a print preview, it looks perfect. Can somebody please help me with this? Thanks!

Is this printer conected directly to your workstation or via a network? If via network can the problem be replicated on another workstation? What drivers are you using for the printer and where did you get them?

  • Anonymous Jul 18, 2007

If you printed a different spreadsheet on the other PC and the problem reappears then this is probably and issue you need to turn over to your network administrators.

    Some possibilities:
    -Printer memory issue.
-If your workstations print to server based print queues the drivers are suspect.

Software issue. Contact MS since HP will do nada for you since it is not a printer problem. Maybe your excel program is not really compatible with Win 7. Check it out.

When i print from excel it is printing multiple pages instead one

check your print preview. Either Excel is set to print multiple copies or the spreadsheet is slightly bigger than a page. Fix the spreadsheet, this is likely not a printer issue.

This printer will print a pdf file but not an excel spreadsheet

shade the area of the excel spreadsheet you want to print, then right click and choose format cells and under the border tab, choose inside and it will outline a printable excel spreadsheet.

Cannot print spreadsheet

Try using print preview from the Excel or whatever spreadsheet program to make sure you have correctly selected the worksheet to print. If there is nothing found to print in the application, no print job is sent to the printer.
If that doesn't work, let us know what program you're printing from, what if any errors you get when you try to print, etc.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

I also had this problem, through trial and error I found that if you go into File, Page setup in excel then the Page tab, make sure the print quality is set to 600 dpi. Once I did that it printed correctly.
