Theory of Operation for 55H70?

I have the manuals for this Toshiba (TAC0069) but -as I recall from my days as a Toshiba Authorized -- Toshiba sometimes provided a Theory of Operation manual for a chassis series. Is there such a manual for this? Specifically, I want to understand the process of determining the sync rates of the incoming signal. How the circuit responds, switching the horiz and vertical rates.

Somehow my original message landed in the 55h_X_70 section: Subject 'Won't lock on standard resolution'

Per your suggestion, I am awaiting a new eeprom muttering "It can't be that simple."

Which means, of course, yes it can. Thanks. I'll report back.

Replacing QA02 did not solve the problem but does allow the set to stay on long enough to attach some pix.

The story so far: STK392-110's replaced to fix original problem. While doing convergence I hit some unfortunate buttons and the 480i pic went bonkers.

1080i *with input signal* is rock solid.
480i or [1080i with no input signal] looks like this.

I read somewhere that there are eeprom values that if scrambled or lost can drastically affect the picture. I believe they are accessable and alterable through the service menus. I ran across a website somewhere (sorry) that had some values from other peoples sets. The values are custom per set -

How do you the ballast

How do you know it is bad? i do not EVER recall a bad ballast on a Toshiba. Likely the generic lamp you used will NOT fire--Toshiba sets are VERY particular about lamps. that--or a bad color wheel.

Toshiba 55H70 Green CRT

Whgat you should have done was to take off the red tube socket and put that socket on the rear of the red tube onto the green tube. If the green worked then you know the green tube was good and the driver was bad. If a set is over 6 to 10 years old, and if you replace one tube, It will never get a good grey scale(B&W). I hope you didnt replace the tube when a driver was bad!
