Re: System shuts down frquently

Hey hi..

thanks for your response. Can you please explain me what do you mean by system recovery? Is it formatting.
Before I used to get blue screen when my laptop used to shut down but now i don't get that blue screen . when I watch a movie or leave the anti virus scanner on , my system just shuts down and then I restart it, its again normal. But this is happening frequently. I doubt this might be because virus or RAM problem. Help would be appreciated . Thanks

Yes by recovery i do mean formatting your system and reinstalling windows.

Also, it is unlikely that it is a virus or ram problem. Usualy this type of issue is the resuly of a driver or software conflict. I cant realy tell you more about the issue without the error code, but generally speaking these are very hard issues to fix because it could be anything. On an hp computer they have a recovery manager, which will reinstall windows for you in about an hour. When you shut off your computer tap f11 repeatedly and then follow the onscreen instructions to perform a system recovery, but first make sure that you have backed up your files, as this sollution will set your computer back to exactly what was on it when it left the factory.

Stop 0x000000ED (UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME)

Hmm seen this a few times. This is most commonly caused by your NTFS format layering being corrupted. Meaning that the partition was either not completed when u loaded the operating system or the format has been corrupted from "hard shut downs" This is turning the pc off with the power button instead of going to "start" button and doing a soft shut down. U can try retrieving the format back but u will have programs that no longer responde. Easiest way to solve the issue is reloading your operating system.

Need to find the reset bitton or just reset it

If you mean for a factory reset then here is the steps, if you use Vista.

Pc Recovery:
1. Please shut down the notebook. Keep tapping F11 as soon as you restart your notebook. You will see a recovery page
2.Click Advanced options, System recovery, and then click Next.
3. Select the System recovery option and click Next.
4.If prompted to use the Microsoft System Restore program, click No, and then click Next.
5. When prompted, select the Back up your files first (recommended) option, Select NO
6. If you are satisfied that you want to begin the recover process, click Next. The PC immediately begins formatting the hard drive and destroying all data.
The recovery process may take up to 1-2 hours and will return the PC to its original condition. Any custom settings, drivers, software programs hardware updates are lost and must be reinstalled.

Thank you

If you didn't get a cd with your laptop, the laptop manufacturers usually set up a special recovery partition so that your system can be restored to its' original factory condition (of course, doing this will wipe out _all_ of your data). Your start menu should have an entry that says "recovery", or something similar. The recovery process should also provide you with an opportunity to make your own recovery cd (or dvd). I strongly recommend that you take the time to do so before going any further. That way if you have a hard drive issue you won't be stuck out in the cold with no operating system.

System shuts down frquently

generally when you get a blue screen error it means that windows is shutting down to avoid a serious error. On that screen is an error code, its usualy quite long and contains zeros, but you can find out alot about your issue by searching it. Likely something that you have installed ( either driver or software wise) is causing a serious problem. My suggestion is to either post the error code here, or to check microsoft's knowledge base. Usualy the best course of action with a problem like that is to back up your files, and consider a recovery. With an hp computer you could do a full system recovery in less than 20 min and save yourself the hassle of trying to decrypt the microsoft error message!

NTLDR missing

I can get into the Boot First Screen but can't seem to change anything within it... These screens seems to be selectively responsive to my key presses.... I can get the bios screen up, boot order screen up but not necessarily do anything within them... e.g. I can't restart the pc using ctrl alt del when the missing NTLDR message appears.... also I have put an XP disc in and it says to press any key to BOOT from CD .... I Do so but obviously it doesn't recognise it so it gives me the missing NTLDR message again! :(
