Question about Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 (U01E200) 200 GB Hard Drive

I dropped the grandson's external drive.

Help! have I done my dash for good? Can he get it fixed? School starts on Monday and he has that 'last minute' assignment to complete. Can I open it and give it a shake? It vibrates and makes a little noise. I don't know what it usually sounds like.

Advice was good. I am now looking for that 'savvy tech' to check it out. A little sticker says I will void the warranty if I open it. Thankyou

If the hard drive itself is damaged, recovery of any data on it may only be possible by sending it to a business specializing in such. I'd suggest opening the case of the unit, and you should find that the drive in it is what is in a desktop or laptop computer, with the appropriate electronics to adapt it to USB. There will be at least one cable connection to the drive- make sure it is properly seated. I've seen an instance where the only problem was a partially disconnected cable. Another possibility, is, if it is a standard drive, to let a tech savvy person take the drive itself, and connect it to a standard computer, and see if it is then readable. If so, data can be recovered.

Can you help with why a high school is not taking action to ensure the safety of students on a "kill" list?

If you are sure of the details, why not report at the police station so they'd be aware of this potential threat to life?

If there is a Parents Teachers Forum/association for this school, raise this issue up and suggest they beef up security watch within the school premises.

Security guards, CCTVs, etc for a start.

Go through your manual and do a system recovery - this is the fastest way to get back working as original.
I hope you have a backup of your data? If not, you will need help creating a boot USB drive or connect a external DVD device to access your data.

Next time you start, 1st thing , download and install Microsoft Security Essentials and run Windows Update from the Microsoft site - all before you load any other software or return your data.

My grandson's Palm Treo 650 will ot charge on wall, car or computer cords. No "drop" or "water damage" issues. He does not have his software. What sould I do now? Is there a reset button? Need he

Reset would not help with this kind of issues.

If it does not charge , and battery and charger are good, that means that there is a broken contact in the DC socket on the PDA, where you plug the charger.

The fix requires disassembly and a delicate soldering job on motherboard, and must be done at a repair shop.

I DROP MY EXTERNAL WD 500GB AND NOW IT ONLY LITE UP, BUT MY PC CAN'T READ IT. WHAT SHOULD I DO TO GET MOST OF SCHOOL WORK, MUSIC AND MOVIES OUT OF IT?

take the hdd out of the external case & connect to another external case and try working it from there.
You can buy usb connection kit or a hdd dock from most puter part outlets or ebay for few $$

you most probably damaged a board inside you external case that might need soldering/repair/replace.

good luck, hope you get the info.

pls keep me advised if all works out

CD rom drive not showing up in

Common problem. CD driver did not install correctly.

Go to Device Manager. Unistall the CD drive. Reboot.

The Operating System will then rescan, locate the drive, and reinstall the driver.

Good luck.
